Jasprit Bumrah once again demonstrated his exceptional skills as India made a strong comeback on the first day of the fourth Test against Australia in Melbourne.
The Australian top order comprising Konstas, Usman Khawaja, Marnus Labuschagne, and Steve Smith all scored half-centuries, putting the hosts in a dominant position at the end of Day 1 in Melbourne with a score of 311/6 against India. Smith and Pat Cummins remained unbeaten at the close of play.
Head was bowled by Bumrah for a duck while attempting to leave the ball. Bumrah then quickly followed up with the wicket of Mitchell Marsh. Labuschagne's partnership with Steve Smith came to an end when he played an aggressive shot on the first ball after the drinks break in the third session. Labuschagne had scored 72 off 145 balls, and his partnership with Smith added 83 runs off 127 balls for the third wicket.
Jasprit Bumrah dismissed Usman Khawaja for the fifth time in the series with a seemingly innocuous delivery. However, that was the only wicket India managed to take in the session, as Khawaja, Labuschagne, and later Smith battled it out to take Australia to a score of 176/2 at Tea.
Debutant opener Konstas made a strong start in the first session with some bold hits, while Khawaja and Labuschagne adopted a more patient approach in the second session against the Indian pacers. Khawaja reached a half-century as they successfully navigated through an intense opening spell from Bumrah and Akash Deep.
Konstas left India struggling early on Day 1 of the first Test, scoring a quick half-century in just 52 balls. His aggressive play seemed to unsettle the Indian team, with the umpire even intervening after a confrontation with Virat Kohli. Ravindra Jadeja finally ended Konstas' innings on 60 off 65 balls shortly after the drinks break.
