The uncertainty surrounding Jasprit Bumrah's availability for the upcoming Champions Trophy event continues, with a recent Times of India article indicating that the ace fast bowler has been ordered to stay in bed due to an unknown diagnosis. Bumrah sustained back spasms during the Sydney Test against Australia, and the BCCI has yet to provide an official update on the severity of the injury.
According to the source, Bumrah's current condition is not good, and he is likely to visit the BCCI's Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru. The situation is being actively observed, and additional developments will be published as they become available.
"Bumrah could go to the CoE next week but right now there is no fixed date yet. He has been advised bed rest at home to help the muscles recover and the swelling to subside. Once that is done, future course of action will be ascertained," a source told the newspaper.
The article also said that Bumrah, who is having swelling in his back owing to the injury, is not anticipated to return immediately. With no clear plan on how to treat the diagnosis, it may take longer for the 31-year-old to get back to competitive play.
"Bed rest doesn't sound good. I hope it's not a disc bulge or a muscle swelling which is of a higher grade. The approach has to be similar with him - wrap him in cotton wool and preserve the talent like him," added the source.
Indian players are preparing for a challenging schedule, which begins with a home white-ball series against England. This will be followed by the Champions Trophy, the IPL, and a test series in England. The selectors have some time before announcing the provisional squad on Sunday, and teams can make changes to the list until February 13. According to reports, the Ajit Agarkar-led committee is awaiting Bumrah's final medical report before making a decision.
Currently, the outlook for Bumrah's rehabilitation in time for the Champions Trophy 2025 appears questionable. Nonetheless, fans are hoping that there isn't any severe damage to his bone that will keep him out for an extended period.
