'Gautam Gambhir is a hypocrite': Ex-India star drops bombshell after Border-Gavaskar Trophy debacle

Former Indian cricketer Manoj Tiwary chastised Gautam Gambhir after India's poor performance in the Border Gavaskar Trophy. The Indian cricket team suffered a disappointing 3-1 defeat in the five-match Test series.

Since Gambhir took over, India has lost an ODI series to Sri Lanka and a 3-0 home defeat to New Zealand. Gambhir's status has come under great examination, although it is doubtful that the Indian coach's job is in immediate jeopardy.

India is ready to face England in a white-ball series, followed by the 2025 Champions Trophy. Any further setbacks will undoubtedly imperil Gambhir's job.

“Gautam Gambhir is a hypocrite. He doesn't do what he says. The captain (Rohit) is from Mumbai, Abhishek Nayar is from Mumbai. Rohit has been pushed to the forefront. There is no one to speak for Jalaj Saxena. He performs well but keeps quiet,” Tiwary told News18 Bangla.

“What is the use of a bowling coach? Whatever the coach says, he will agree. Morne Morkel came from Lucknow Super Giants. Abhishek Nayar was at Kolkata Knight Riders with Gambhir and the Indian head coach knows that he will not go against his instructions," he added.

Tiwary also believes that the relationship between Gambhir and Rohit is not ideal. In the interview, he addressed allegations about their poor relationship, pointing out that although Rohit is a World Cup-winning captain, Gambhir's captaincy success has been limited to the IPL.

“How will they work together? Rohit is a World Cup-winning captain while Gambhir led KKR to IPL titles both as a captain and mentor. Gambhir didn't guide KKR to the title single-handedly as we all performed as a unit. Jacques Kallis, Sunil Narine and I, all contributed to the cause. But who took the credit? There is an environment and PR that allows him to take all the credit,” he said.

All eyes are glued on the Champions Trophy, with the BCCI expecting to reveal the squad in the coming days.
