India Vs England (Ind Vs Eng), 3rd T20I Match Highlights: England, who were behind 0-2 in the five-match T20 series managed to stay in the game by defeating India by 26 runs in the 3rd T20I.
The stage is set for the third match of the 5-match T20I series, which will take place in Rajkot today, January 28th. India showcased a dominant performance in the first game at Eden Gardens, but had to work hard for the win in Chennai during the second match, with Tilak Varma leading the home side to victory with a calm and composed knock.
This upcoming match is a crucial one for England, as they are facing a do-or-die situation and must bounce back to avoid losing the series in the first three games. Currently, India leads the series 2-0. The conditions at Rajkot's Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium are favorable for the batters, so fans can anticipate a high-scoring thriller between these two quality sides.
Pacer Arshdeep Singh is on the verge of a milestone, needing just two more wickets to become the first Indian player to reach 100 T20I wickets. Starting the series with 95 wickets to his name in T20I cricket, Singh will be looking to achieve this feat in the upcoming match.
Follow highlights from IND vs ENG 3rd T20I here:
Carse dismisses Jurel on the first ball of the final over, practically sealing the victory. England wins by 26 runs. The away team put on a fantastic performance to keep their hopes alive in the series.
ENG 171/9 (20)
IND 145/9 (20)
Carse starts off the day with his first over. Abhishek decides to take him on. He edges the ball over third man for a boundary. Carse bowls a full-toss and Abhishek effortlessly hits it through covers for another four. Abhishek goes for another big shot, but this time he mishits it high in the air. Archer leaps and takes a spectacular catch.
Wood delivers the ball. Sanju clips it away for a single. Wood bowls a full and wide delivery, which Abhishek chips away for a boundary. Wood then bowls a shorter delivery, which Abhishek cracks over long on for another four.
The final over of the innings is bowled by Hardik. He starts with four singles off the first four balls. Another single follows on the fifth ball. There's a wide now, and a bye is taken. Wood and Rashid manage to get a double to finish off the innings.
Duckett reaches his fifty with a single against Axar, showcasing a strong performance as the English opener. Duckett confidently steps out of his crease, Axar adjusts his length and causes a mishit. The ball is easily caught at deep midwicket.
Duckett is facing Varun now. He confidently hits the spinner over his head for a boundary. He then tries to hit the ball over the covers, but doesn't quite get the timing right, so he only manages to get two runs. Varun then bowls a fast one, and Buttler tries to play a reverse sweep. Sanju appeals for a catch, and manages to convince SKY to take a review.
Buttler takes a single on the first ball. Duckett creates some space and smashes it through covers for a four. He then pulls off a reverse sweep for another four over point. Duckett confidently dances down the track and sends the ball flying down the ground for a massive six.
Hardik goes short, but Duckett nails the pull shot for a boundary! Now Duckett goes over the covers for another four. Hardik delivers a full ball and it is dispatched for a boundary over mid-wicket. England is gaining momentum with these shots!
Hardik Pandya is bowling from the other end. Duckett manages to punch one through covers for a single. Hardik then surprises Salt with a bouncer, leaving him beaten. A full and wide delivery from Hardik allows Salt to crunch it straight to Abhishek Sharma.
India (Playing XI): Sanju Samson(w), Abhishek Sharma, Tilak Varma, Suryakumar Yadav(c), Dhruv Jurel, Hardik Pandya, Washington Sundar, Axar Patel, Mohammed Shami, Ravi Bishnoi, Varun Chakravarthy
England (Playing XI): Ben Duckett, Philip Salt (wk), Jos Buttler (c), Harry Brook, Liam Livingstone, Jamie Smith, Jamie Overton, Brydon Carse, Jofra Archer, Adil Rashid, Mark Wood.
Suryakumar Yadav: We will bowl first, looks nice and hard, don't think it will change later as well. Rajkot has always been a good track, sure it will be a sporting one. We wanted to play a different brand of cricket but at the same time you need to understand the situation and he (Tilak) bailed the side out. We'll look at it as a 3 game series from here, boys are charged up. Arshdeep is resting, Shami comes in.
Jos Buttler: Looks a really good surface, looking forward to batting. We would've chased as well. Looks a good wicket, guys have had a good practice yesterday and we're excited for the match. Was a really good game of cricket, we fought really hard and pushed them all the way. We need to play really well tonight. We know how well India play, they're a strong team. We need a good total to defend. Same team but Jamie Smith will keep wickets, Salt has got a little stiff calf.
The average first innings total in the five T20Is played at this venue is 189, with India scoring an impressive 228 for 5 against Sri Lanka in their last match in Rajkot. Additionally, there were numerous 170-plus totals recorded during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy matches held here in November-December. The pitch appeared quite bare, lacking significant grass coverage. These factors indicate that a high-scoring match is likely to unfold. Interestingly, teams chasing a target have historically had a higher success rate in T20 games played in Rajkot.
In the first T20I, Jofra Archer was the standout bowler who managed to keep the Indian batters in check, who were scoring runs with ease. However, things changed in the second match. Archer had impressive figures of 2/21 in the first game, with Abhishek Sharma only starting to attack after Archer had bowled his four overs. In contrast, the second T20I marked a turning point as Archer faced his first instance of giving up over 50 runs in a T20I. He ended the match with figures of 1/60.
India predicted playing XI: Sanju Samson (wk), Abhishek Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav (c), Tilak Varma, Hardik Pandya, Dhruv Jurel, Washington Sundar, Axar Patel, Ravi Bishnoi/Mohammed Shami/Harshit Rana, Arshdeep Singh, Varun Chakravarthy
England: Ben Duckett, Philip Salt (wk), Jos Buttler (c), Harry Brook, Liam Livingstone, Jamie Smith, Jamie Overton, Brydon Carse, Jofra Archer, Adil Rashid, Mark Wood.
Arshdeep Singh is close to making history as the first Indian cricketer to achieve 100 T20I wickets, currently sitting at 98. He has surpassed Yuzvendra Chahal and now stands as India's leading wicket-taker in this shortest format of the game.
India's batting coach, Sitanshu Kotak, has confirmed that Mohammed Shami is fit to play. However, the decision on whether he will participate in today's match rests with the coach and captain. "There is definitely a plan, and looking (at him) for coming matches as well as the one-dayers. So, that is something the coach Gautam and obviously Surya will take a call. But fitness is definitely not a problem. It depends on how they are planning to build his load," he said.
India has claimed victory in the first two matches played in Kolkata and Chennai. In Kolkata, the Indian team easily chased down the target, demonstrating their strength. However, in Chennai, the Men in Blue had to work hard before clinching the win with only four balls remaining.
