RCB vs GT, IPL 2025: Rajat Patidar's Royal Challengers Bengaluru will face off against Gujarat Titans at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru.
RCB vs GT, Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025: The Royal Challengers Bengaluru, undefeated so far, are gearing up to play on their home ground for the first time this season. They'll be taking on the Gujarat Titans at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium this Wednesday. RCB is coming off a couple of hard-fought wins on the road against the Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings, which has set a solid tone under the new captain, Rajat Patidar.
With Phil Salt and Virat Kohli playing well and Patidar demonstrating that he can lead without compromising his own batting, the team appears well-rounded this season. In addition, RCB boasts a potent bowling group that includes Josh Hazlewood, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and Krunal Pandya.
On the other side, the Gujarat Titans have a top order packed with game-changers like captain Shubman Gill, Sai Sudharsan, and Jos Buttler. With players like Shahrukh Khan, Sherfane Rutherford, and Rahul Tewatia, who can turn a match on its head with their aggressive batting, the Titans are definitely a tough opponent. However, their bowlers—Rashid Khan, Kagiso Rabada, R Sai Kishore, Mohammad Siraj, and Prasidh Krishna—will have their work cut out for them against one of the league's most in-form batting lineups.
Hazlewood bowled the final over, with Rutherford starting by getting a single with a cut to deep third. Buttler then hit three sixes – one with a reverse scoop, another with a pull to the legside, and a third with a swivel pull, leaving Shubman in disbelief. This sealed a comfortable eight-wicket win for GT over RCB, handing RCB its first loss of the season.
RCB 169/8 (20)
GT 170/2 (17.5)
Krunal bowls his second over. Sudharsan hits a single to long on. Buttler smashes a six over deep midwicket. Sudharsan then hits a four with a pull shot. GT reaches 100 in their chase. Another four with a pull shot, but Kohli injures his finger trying to stop it. 17 runs scored in the over.
Rasikh bowls, Sudharsan gets a single. Buttler hits a four by pulling the ball in front of midwicket. Then he hits a six with a top edge that goes over the boundary behind the keeper. Although Buttler's shot was not exactly as planned, he is happy with the result.
Devdutt Padikkal has been replaced by Rasikh Dar as an Impact Player. Bhuvneshwar Kumar is back in the PowerPlay. Shubman Gill hits a six over long-on but gets out the next ball with a thick outside edge while trying to hit on the off-side. Liam Livingstone takes a good catch diving forward from third man.
Hazlewood kept testing Gill with deliveries outside off and extra bounce. Gill managed to sneak a single after two dot balls. Sudharsan then hit a boundary with an innovative shot, and followed it up with another boundary by stepping out and hitting the ball down the ground.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar starts bowling, B. Sai Sudharsan faces. Sudharsan takes a few steps forward to block the ball on his leg side for a single. He quickly runs for another single after hitting the ball in front of point. Sudharsan is able to score a couple of runs but is also beaten by a delivery that swings in.
Livingstone hits a six by lofting the ball over deep midwicket and just clearing the fielder. He then tries a pull shot that falls short of the diving fielder. He hits another four with an outside edge that runs past slip to the fence.
Sai Kishore gets Jitesh out when he tries to hit a sweep but falls short. Livingstone misses a shot, gets hit on the thigh, and manages to score a single. Then Jitesh tries to hit a lofted shot but ends up getting caught by Tewatia.
Prasidh bowls his third over, conceding only three runs in his first two. Livingstone hits a dot ball to midwicket, then a bouncer for four. A few singles are scored as Prasidh continues with back-of-a-length deliveries. Livingstone then pushes a fuller delivery for a single before missing a slash outside off.
Ishant Sharma continues to bowl as Livingstone scores a single behind point, causing his bat to fly out of his hand. RCB reaches 50 runs in 8.1 overs. Jitesh hits a 78-metre six over long-on. He then scores a couple of runs through midwicket and slashes a boundary through point.
Salt hit a massive six over deep midwicket, the ball went over the roof and outside the stadium for 105 meters. However, on the next ball, Siraj got him out as he backed away and the ball hit his off-stump. There was an appeal for LBW when Livingstone came in, but it was not given out. The review showed the ball was missing leg-stump and just going over, so Livingstone survived and the review was lost. The over ended with a yorker that Livingstone jammed out.
Virat Kohli and Phil Salt are opening the innings, with Mohammed Siraj about to bowl against his former team. This matchup adds excitement to the game. In the first over, Salt miscued a pull for a single, Kohli hit a four through covers, and both players added singles.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru (Playing XI): Philip Salt, Virat Kohli, Devdutt Padikkal, Rajat Patidar(c), Liam Livingstone, Jitesh Sharma(w), Tim David, Krunal Pandya, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Josh Hazlewood, Yash Dayal
Gujarat Titans (Playing XI): Sai Sudharsan, Shubman Gill(c), Jos Buttler(w), Shahrukh Khan, Rahul Tewatia, Arshad Khan, Rashid Khan, Ravisrinivasan Sai Kishore, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Ishant Sharma
Shubman Gill: We'll bowl first. Looks like a good wicket. We've seen the conditions don't change much. We're all about reducing our unforced errors. We'll try to finetune the areas that need it. Kagiso misses out due to personal reasons so we've got Arshad Khan back.
Rajat Patidar: Would've bowled first as well because it's a new surface. It's pretty hard and won't change much. The way boys are chipping in gives a lot of confidence as a captain. We love this crowd. The way they love us and the support we've always received is incredible. Same team.
The return of Royal Challengers Bengaluru to Chinnaswamy Stadium presents a recurring challenge - can they overcome their struggles on home turf? Despite a promising start to the IPL 2025 season with two victories on the road, their inconsistent performance at home continues to be a cause for concern. With a win rate of less than 50 percent in Bengaluru, the team has made strategic acquisitions in the bowling department during the auction in an effort to improve their chances of success.
"I think everybody knows what to expect from a surface here in Bangalore. It's a good wicket, we know it's a pretty short boundary, we know the ball carries and flies, so they're typically high scoring games... We've recruited a team that we think is pretty powerful, we hope we can exploit those batting conditions. And we think we've got a bowling attack that's particularly skilful and that can deal with the challenge of bowling here. Attacking here, but also defending here," explained Mo Bobat, the RCB team director.
