KKR vs RCB IPL 2025 Highlights: Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) captain Rajat Patidar won the toss and elected to bowl against the defending champions, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).
KKR vs RCB, IPL 2025: In the much-anticipated opening match of the Indian Premier League 2025, Ajinkya Rahane's Kolkata Knight Riders are set to take on Rajat Patidar's Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the legendary Eden Gardens in Kolkata this Saturday. The Knight Riders, fresh off their trophy win last season, are eager to kick off their campaign with a bang. Meanwhile, the Royal Challengers, who made a strong push to reach the playoffs after a rocky start, are determined to make a bold statement right from the start.
Both teams have seen some major changes in their rosters after the mega auction. However, all eyes will be on KKR's Venkatesh Iyer, whose stock has risen dramatically. Iyer has a history of delivering match-winning performances, but this season, every move he makes will be under the microscope.
On the flip side, even with the powerhouse Virat Kohli on their side, RCB will be counting on their English players to step up. These athletes have the talent to turn a game around on their own, but they've been struggling with their form while playing for their national team. For RCB to find success, they'll need their English contingent to hit their stride and perform at their best.
Spencer Johnson delivers a bouncer to Livingstone, but Livingstone responds with a powerful SIX! Showing his dominance once again, Livingstone hooks the ball over fine leg for another boundary, a FOUR! Livingstone expertly flicks the ball past mid-on, securing the victory for RCB.
KKR 174/8 (20)
RCB 177/3 (16.2)
Harshit delivers a slower ball to Kohli, who puts too much power into his shot, resulting in a mistimed hit for a single to long on. However, Patidar manages to elegantly chip the ball over covers for a boundary. He follows it up with another boundary by guiding the ball down leg to fine leg. The third boundary of the over comes from a square drive that eludes the point fielder but is stopped by the midfields. Patidar concludes the over with another boundary, expertly using the width to slice the ball over the backward point region.
Varun plays the first delivery from Kohli, cutting it to deep cover for a single. Padikkal follows with a push to long on, also scoring one run. A magnificent SIX! Kohli finds the perfect opportunity and slogs the ball over long on for a maximum.
Varun is struggling to contain the runs, as Salt effortlessly hits a short delivery for a boundary. Varun then bowls a wide delivery outside off stump, which Salt capitalizes on by slicing it towards short third man for a simple catch.
Kohli hits back-to-back sixes against Spencer Johnson, thrilling the Kolkata crowd who are now firmly supporting Kohli and RCB. The atmosphere is electric as Salt adds another four with a skillful cut shot between third man and point.
Rahane introduces Varun Chakaravarthy into the attack as Salt continues to dominate. He effortlessly lifts Varun over mid-on for a boundary, and then follows it up with a powerful six on the next delivery. This brings up the 50 runs milestone for RCB. The next ball is a fuller delivery which is expertly smoked over mid-on for another four.
Arora is struggling with his length as Salt effortlessly smashes the ball over mid-on for a boundary. Arora pitches it up once more, only to have Salt hit the first six of the innings. Kohli follows suit with another four, although the timing could have been better. The ball is spliced away to the leg side. Arora then bowls short, allowing Salt to elegantly uppercut the ball over point for another boundary.
Spencer Johnson opens the bowling for KKR in their distinctive colors. He delivers a delivery that beats Salt's bat on the outside edge. Salt then confidently drives a fuller delivery through the covers for a boundary. Johnson retaliates with a perfectly executed yorker, but Salt manages to squeeze it away for a single.
Vaibhav Arora has stepped in to replace Raghuvanshi and will be delivering the first over. Phil Salt wastes no time and immediately starts off strong by driving the fuller ball through covers for a boundary. Arora shows better length in his bowling, putting Salt on the defensive. Not long after, Kohli also joins in on the action by scoring a four with a well-placed clip down the leg side.
Hazlewood to bowl the final over of the match. The first three deliveries are bouncers, each resulting in a pull shot attempt and a swing and a miss from the batsman. On the fourth delivery, Harshit manages to connect with the ball and sends it flying over the keeper's head for a boundary. However, on the fifth delivery, another bouncer is sent down and this time the batsman edges it high into the air. Jitesh positions himself perfectly and takes a comfortable catch to dismiss the batsman.
Hazlewood is back in the office. Angkrish is dismissed on the first delivery as he tries to pull but is caught out by the bounce. On the second delivery, Angkrish attempts a ramp shot but only manages to get a single. Ramandeep then gets a leg bye to third man. A fantastic SIX is hit by Angkrish as he reads the slower delivery and sends it soaring into the crowd. Angkrish tries another pull shot but only gets a single this time. Ramandeep expertly blocks a yorker and quickly runs it down to third man for a single.
Suyash here once more. A boundary! A wide delivery allows Andre Russell to open his account with a well-executed cut shot past point. However, attempting a powerful slog across the line proves to be his downfall as he fails to pick the wrong delivery and is bowled out.
Krunal is in for his final over. There is an appeal for leg before wicket against Rinku, but RCB decides not to review. It appeared that the ball pitched outside the line of the leg stump.
And he's out! Another slider that catches the batter off guard. Rinku tries to pull the ball, but the length is not short enough. It beats the batter and knocks the bails off.
Krunal begins the over with a bouncer, which is deemed a wide. He follows it up with a perfect delivery that bowls Venkatesh out. The ball goes straight through, leaving Venkatesh stranded at the crease, unable to make a shot.
Suyash is up to ball once more. Iyer hits a powerful shot, sending the ball soaring over short third for a boundary. Angkrish steps up next, confidently driving the ball through the air and past mid off for another four runs. The over concludes with Angkrish expertly cutting the final delivery, outmaneuvering the fielders to score yet another boundary.
Rasikh's clever use of slower balls remains a key aspect of his bowling strategy. He nearly managed to dismiss Rahane with one such delivery. However, he missed his length against Narine, resulting in a low full toss that was sliced over cover for a boundary, bringing up the 100 runs for KKR. Despite this setback, Rasikh quickly adjusted his length and bowled a back-of-a-length delivery to Narine, who managed to bludgeon it over long on for a six. Nevertheless, Rasikh had the last laugh as he forced an edge out of Narine with a well-pitched delivery.
Rasikh is back in the attack, with a leg bye bringing Narine on strike. Rasikh starts off with a wide down the off side, followed by another wide line. Narine manages to get an edge, but Jitesh makes a fantastic diving stop to prevent a boundary. Rasikh then sends a delivery over Narine's head, resulting in another wide.
A wide yorker from Rasikh is skillfully guided past point by Narine for a boundary.
Suyash Sharma faced off against his former team, delivering a short ball that Rahane effortlessly slashed for a four. Suyash then found his rhythm, delivering three consecutive dot balls before Rahane managed to sneak a single off the last ball.
Dayal delivers a full ball, and Narine expertly flicks it away for a boundary past mid-wicket. Rahane follows suit, maintaining the aggressive approach. He goes for a big shot, resulting in an edge that flies over third man for another four.
Dayal bowls another full delivery, which Rahane dispatches over the square leg fence for a magnificent six. The next ball is a low full toss, skillfully guided through point for yet another boundary.
Rasikh Salam delivers his first over as a bowler for RCB. Rahane effortlessly clips the ball off his pads for a boundary. Rasikh's next delivery is slightly short, allowing Rahane to pull off a well-timed shot for a six.
But Rahane isn't finished yet. He confidently steps across the stumps and hammers a length ball over mid-wicket for a massive six!
Hazlewood continues his impressive bowling performance, maintaining an off-stump line with precision. Narine attempts to play three consecutive deliveries but fails to make contact. Hazlewood then delivers a short ball, which Narine manages to top edge, sending it flying over the keeper for a boundary. This boundary proves to be the only scoring shot in the over.
Narine is currently on strike. The ball is down the leg side, prompting a loud appeal for a caught behind, but there is no reaction from the umpire and no review from RCB. Dayal is keeping the line away from Narine, resulting in three dot balls. Only a single is scored from the over.
