GT vs MI Highlights: Shubman Gill's Gujarat Titans will face Hardik Pandya's Mumbai Indians at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Saturday.
GT vs MI, Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025: Shubman Gill's Gujarat Titans are gearing up to clash with Hardik Pandya's Mumbai Indians in match 9 of the IPL 2025, taking place at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Saturday. Both teams faced tough losses in their opening matches against Punjab Kings and Chennai Super Kings, respectively.
The Titans had their moments during the chase against Punjab, but they stumbled in the final overs. Their bowling remains a bit of a worry as they get ready to face Mumbai, who have a lineup packed with formidable batters.
On the other hand, Mumbai's batting struggled in their first outing against CSK, falling prey to the clever Chennai spinners. However, their bowling unit held its ground. With Hardik Pandya back in charge, Mumbai is expected to step up their game in this next matchup.
In the last over, Siraj bowled to Naman and Santner, with Santner hitting a six and trying to loft a ball over the legside. However, he was trapped in front on the last ball, but the review showed the ball was pitching outside leg. As a result, GT won by 36 runs.
GT 196/8 (20)
MI 160/6 (20)
Santner hits a six over mid off against Rabada, then gets a single. Naman misses a pull shot but connects on the next attempt for a four, narrowly missing the boundary. Prasidh drops a catch from Santner as he tries to guide a pull shot.
Prasidh bowled to Naman. First, Naman scored a boundary by whipping the ball through square leg. Then, he hit a short ball to deep square for one run. Santner followed by punching the ball to cover for a single. Lastly, Naman moved across and lofted a length ball over short fine leg for another boundary.
Prasidh delivers a slower full ball to Surya, who flicks it for a single. Hardik gets lucky with a short ball almost hitting the stumps. Surya struggles with a low off-side ball and almost gets caught by Siraj. Finally, Surya mistimes a shot and gets caught by Gill at long off.
Surya and Minz both score singles, with Minz hitting a six off a full delivery on the pads. Surya then drives a ball to cover for another single. However, Minz gets out trying to loft the ball over extra cover, resulting in a catch at short third.
Rashid returns as Sudharsan is injured and helped off the field. Tilak and Suryakumar hit singles and a couple of runs, reaching a 50-run partnership in just 34 balls. Suryakumar hits a single off his pads for a total of six runs in the over.
Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton begin the chase, with a good PowerPlay crucial. Ishant Sharma replaces Rutherford as Impact Player for GT. Mohammed Siraj bowls the first over with Rohit facing. Rohit hits two consecutive boundaries before getting bowled by Siraj. Tilak Varma comes in at No. 3 and takes a single off the last ball of the over to get off the mark.
Raju bowls the last over with four fielders outside the ring. Rabada misses a shot but manages a bye. Rashid hits a six, then gets caught on the next ball. Sai Kishore hits a single, then gets run out trying to steal a bye on a slower ball.
Boult bowled a low full toss that Rutherford hit for a six, then followed with a delivery that beat Rutherford's swing. He then bowled a slower bouncer that Rutherford pulled for a single, and finished with a perfect yorker that Sudharsan managed to dig out for another single.
Chahar bowled the final over of the PowerPlay. Sudharsan hit a single and Gill got a couple of runs and a six with a shimmy down the pitch. Gill then got a quick single and there was a horrible overthrow that gave GT five runs. Chahar's bouncer was called wide. Gill finished the PowerPlay with a four, making it a big one for GT.
Gujarat Titans (Playing XI): Shubman Gill(c), Sai Sudharsan, Jos Buttler(w), Sherfane Rutherford, Shahrukh Khan, Rahul Tewatia, Rashid Khan, Ravisrinivasan Sai Kishore, Kagiso Rabada, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna
Mumbai Indians (Playing XI): Rohit Sharma, Ryan Rickelton(w), Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya(c), Tilak Varma, Naman Dhir, Mitchell Santner, Deepak Chahar, Trent Boult, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Satyanarayana Raju
Hardik Pandya: We'll bowl first. The simple reason is we don't know how the pitch will play, plus the dew factor. Only last year we played on black soil, otherwise we have been playing on red soil. Last year, we had the game under wraps but couldn't finish it. The prep has been fantastic, the boys are excited and we back each other, be there for each other. Very happy stage. I come back, and the others we are keeping the options open. Always about playing good cricket, planning right and enjoying the game.
Shubman Gill: Batted first plenty of times here, so nothing changes for us. It is all about assessing the conditions and seeing what target we can set, and if we are chasing it is about how to get to that target. We have got the same team, might see one change with the impact sub. We want to have a lefty - righty combination, and Jos has been playing at 3 for England, so nothing changes for him.
Robin Minz may be replaced by Hardik Pandya in the upcoming game, while Vignesh Puthur, who performed well in the first game, could be given a chance as an Impact Player. There may not be any other changes in the team, but a surprise selection is possible. Mitchell Santner and Puthur will challenge Buttler and Rutherford, and Trent Boult will be a key player against GT openers Gill and Sai Sudharsan, known for his early breakthroughs.
