IND vs SA 2nd T20I Highlights: Tristan Stubbs led South Africa to a 3-wicket victory, overshadowing Varun Chakaravarthy's impressive 5-wicket haul.
India is poised to extend their lead to 2-0 in the four-match T20I series as they face off against South Africa at St George’s Park in Gqeberha on Sunday. Thanks to Sanju Samson's impressive 47-ball century, India secured a 61-run victory over South Africa in the first match.
Currently on an impressive 11-match winning streak, India has dominated recent series against Zimbabwe, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh, as well as the ongoing series against South Africa.
Having played 23 T20Is this year, India has emerged victorious in 22 matches, with their only defeat coming at the hands of Zimbabwe in the first T20I in early July.
Follow highlights of India vs South Africa 2nd T20I below.
Jansen really nailed that one, sending it over the deep cover fielder for a massive six. Unfortunately, Tilak Varma took a hit to the head and had to undergo a concussion test, but thankfully he's okay. India had a shout for LBW, but the umpire didn't give it. After a review, Jansen was out with three reds showing. It was a great innings, with Jansen scoring 54 off just 17 balls.
With 18 needed off three balls, Simeline stepped up to the plate and hit a four off his first ball. Now, with 14 needed off two balls, the pressure was on. A single was taken, leaving 13 needed off one ball. Coetzee could only manage a single, and India emerged victorious by 11 runs.
IND 219/6 (20)
RSA 208/7 (20)
Arshdeep begins with a short delivery and Stubbs smashes it for a FOUR! South Africa is cruising towards a victory! The ball is wide outside off, Stubbs gets a thick outside edge, and it races away for a boundary! It looks like the game is in the bag now. South Africa only needs 5 runs off 10 balls. Stand and deliver time. Arshdeep bowls another short one, Stubbs pulls it straight for another FOUR! The scores are now level. Another short delivery, another pull shot, and Stubbs finishes off in style with another FOUR! What a way to end the game!
IND 124/6 (20)
RSA 128/7 (19)
Arshdeep is back in the attack, replacing Hardik. The required run rate has climbed close to 10 runs per over now. It's an uphill task for Stubbs and Coetzee. The ball is right in the slot and it's smashed straight over the bowler's head for a massive SIX! Boundary to end the over.
Varun is about to bowl his fourth over. What a night he's been having! He just removed the dangerous Klaasen once again! The delivery was slightly short and slower through the air, causing Klaasen to rock back and try to clear long off, but he ended up hitting it straight into the hands of Arshdeep. Another one bites the dust! Varun is on a hat-trick and has picked up a five-for! Simelane is the next batter in. He managed to negate the hat-trick delivery and got off the mark with a single.
Arshdeep delivers three consecutive dots. The next ball is short and wide outside off, allowing Rickleton to free his hands and send it over covers for a boundary! The following delivery is on stump line, but Rickleton adjusts by clearing his foot and smashing it over midwicket for a couple of runs.
Jansen delivers a short ball, Hardik attempts to pull it but ends up getting a top edge. The ball heads towards Coetzee at third man, but he misses the catch. Hardik doesn't bother running. Another short delivery, Hardik swings his bat and sends the ball flying over the keeper's head for a boundary!
Gerald Coetzee is going to bowl the second over. Abhishek welcomes him in style by pulling a short one on the leg side for a FOUR! Unfortunately, Abhishek's bad luck continues as he is caught out! Another short delivery, the left-handed batsman tries to pull it but ends up top-edging it to the square leg fielder!
South Africa (Playing XI): Aiden Markram(c), Ryan Rickelton, Reeza Hendricks, Tristan Stubbs, Heinrich Klaasen(w), David Miller, Marco Jansen, Andile Simelane, Gerald Coetzee, Keshav Maharaj, Nqabayomzi Peter
India (Playing XI): Sanju Samson(w), Abhishek Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav(c), Tilak Varma, Hardik Pandya, Rinku Singh, Axar Patel, Arshdeep Singh, Ravi Bishnoi, Varun Chakaravarthy, Avesh Khan
Aiden Markram: We are going to bowl first again. With rain around, that's the obvious part. Hope the bowlers use the moisture. Kruger is out, Hendricks is in. We are not concerned about the outcome or result.
Suryakumar Yadav: We wanted to bat first and play same brand of cricket, happy with the things in the last match. You always learn something or the other in every game. We want to continue the good habits. No changes, playing with the same XI.
St. George's Park has hosted a total of 9 T20 matches, with the team batting first emerging victorious 4 times, while the team bowling first has won 5 times. The average first innings score at this venue is 136, while the average second innings score is 116.
The highest score ever recorded at St. George's Park was achieved by India against the hosts, when the Men in Blue scored 180/7 in December 2023. On the other hand, the highest successful run chase at this ground was accomplished by South Africa against India in the same match, where the Proteas secured a victory by 5 wickets through the DLS method.
Sanju Samson has recently displayed exceptional form in T20I cricket, achieving the remarkable feat of scoring two centuries in consecutive matches. His outstanding performances have not only silenced critics but also cemented his position as a pivotal player in the Indian T20I team.
The team management will be closely monitoring the performance of opener Abhishek Sharma, whose form has declined since his impressive century against Zimbabwe earlier this year. In the seven T20Is he has played since then, Sharma has only managed a highest score of 16. His lackluster performance continued in the 1st T20I, where he scored just 7 runs off 8 deliveries, failing to make a significant impact.
According to AccuWeather, there is a high probability of rain interrupting the match. The forecast predicts a 49%-54% chance of rain at the time of the toss, scheduled for 7 PM IST. As the match progresses, the likelihood of rain increases to 64% before decreasing to 40% later in the evening.
