CRICKET
India Women's cricket team will face off against Australia Women's cricket team in a crucial match in their final group stage game of the T20 World Cup 2024.
Harmanpreet Kaur's India is set to face off against Australia in a crucial match at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Sunday. While India has suffered a single defeat in the tournament so far, Australia remains undefeated.
Australia is currently on a remarkable 14-match winning streak at the Women's T20 World Cup. Interestingly, India was the last team to defeat them in the tournament opener of the 2020 edition. The six-time champions have convincingly won all three of their matches, but there is concern over the fitness of their captain, Alyssa Healy, who retired hurt during the victory against Pakistan.
For India, a victory on Sunday is imperative to stay in contention for a spot in the semifinals. However, defeating Australia is a challenging task in itself. India not only needs to win the match but also do so by a significant margin to surpass Australia's Net Run Rate. This will ensure that they are unaffected by the outcome of the match between New Zealand and Pakistan on Monday.
To surpass Australia's Net Run Rate, India must score 180 runs and limit Australia to 117, or score 160 runs and restrict Australia to 98. Therefore, a margin of over 60 runs is essential. If Harmanpreet Kaur's team is chasing a target of 120, they will need to achieve victory in 10.1 overs.
Follow highlights of India W vs Australia W from Sharjah here.
Pooja got sent back by Sutherland after missing a full toss swing. Reddy got run out right after stepping onto the pitch. But then Harmanpreet stepped up to bat. They managed to score a single before Shreyanka took the strike. Everyone was wondering if she could hit two sixes. Unfortunately, she got stumped out after a wide ball from Sutherland caused confusion at the crease. And just like that, Radha's first and last ball at the crease ended with Sutherland trapping her before the wicket. Australia ended up winning by nine runs. That's a wrap for this match!
AUSW 151/8 (20)
INDW 142/9 (20)
Harmanpreet executes a smooth paddle sweep on the third ball, adding another run to the scoreboard. Deepti follows suit with a powerful sweep, but unfortunately, the ball doesn't find the gap, forcing her to settle for a single.
FOUR! Sutherland smashes the ball over short mid-off for a boundary. The next ball results in an out as the batter misses and the ball hits the stumps. And another wicket falls! Molineux thought Jemimah caught her out, but the Indian player dropped the ball. However, Shreyanka manages to run Molineux out at the non-striker’s end.
FOUR! McGrath confidently steps out and smashes the ball through the covers. Vastrakar responds with a bouncer. A quick single to extra cover on the next delivery. And another FOUR! Harris elegantly shuffles across and skillfully ramps the ball past the keeper.
McGrath neatly hits the third ball through mid-wicket for a single. A bye is taken on the next ball. McGrath tries to drive the fifth ball, but Jemimah makes a fantastic diving save to limit it to just one run.
Mooney is caught at point! She tried to square cut a full delivery but ended up getting caught by Radha Yadav.
And now Georgia Wareham is given leg before. Renuka is on fire with two wickets in two balls. Her sharp nip backer was just too good for Wareham.
FOUR! Renuka delivers a bit of width, allowing the batsman to cut the ball through point for a boundary. The wide ball adds to Australia's score. Two runs are scored on the fifth delivery, played through square leg.

Tahlia McGrath | stand-in Australia captain: We are gonna bat first, put up a score on the board. This is third game here, looks like a slightly better surface than the previous ones. We have two changes.
Harmanpreet Kaur: It's absolutely fine, we have to bowl them out for a low total and chase it down. It's our first game here, we have watched many games on TV and we have our plans. We have beaten them in the past too and we can again do that. One change for us - Pooja (Vastrakar) comes in for Sajana
