India vs England, 3rd Test Match Day 4: The Lord's Test between India and England is getting exciting as after Day 3 Stumps, both teams are nearly on equal level, and have equal chances of winning the game at this iconic venue. Batting first, England scored 387 runs in the first innings, courtesy of Joe Root's blistering century. In reply, India also posted 387 runs on board with the help of KL Rahul's century and half-centuries from Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja.
Just one over ahead of Day 3 Stumps, England openers Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett came out to bat and put a two-run lead on the touring nation. For the unversed, this last over of the day also captivated the attention of many as cricket fans saw an ugly verbal spat between Gill and Crawley due to slow gameplay from English openers. Nair hits a boundary through covers off Archer's first ball. A risky leg bye follows, but the runners make it safely. Nair scores another four, and Archer asks for fielding changes, but Stokes ignores him. The last ball edges but does not carry.
Archer bowls a full inswinger to Nair, who successfully drives it through mid on for two runs. On the second delivery, Archer sends a bouncer aimed at Nair's body, but he manages to sway away from it. The following bouncer doesn't bounce high enough and hits Nair on the shoulder while he attempts to duck. The last ball is a full delivery, and Nair drives it through mid off for another two runs.
Archer bowls from the Nursery End, and Rahul is ready to bat. Rahul hits a boundary with a shot on the pads, sending the ball to the fine leg. He also takes a single with a pull shot. However, Jaiswal is out after trying to hit a short ball but gets a top edge, leading to a catch by Jamie Smith.
Bumrah takes a wicket by bowling Woakes after he gets an inside edge. He then bowls to Bashir, who leaves a ball outside off and defends a yorker. Bashir misses a full ball aimed outside off after the field is set for a short ball.
Bumrah takes a crucial wicket by bowling Carse out with a fast yorker, causing issues for England. Jofra Archer comes in and faces some challenging deliveries, including a missed lbw appeal. England scores a legbye and Woakes manages a single. Archer is hit on the thigh by a short ball and a review for an appeal shows no edge.
KL Rahul is at silly point. Woakes hits the ball to the other side and gets a single. Stokes plays a ball that spins in and manages to get a run through short leg. Woakes is beaten by a ball that turns sharply outside off. It’s tea time on Day 4.
Washy bowls to Stokes, who hits the ball to short cover. After that, Stokes plays a shorter ball to deep point for a single. There’s a big wicket as Root tries to sweep but gets out when the ball hits the leg stump. Smith comes in at number 7 and starts by playing a straight ball that deflects off his bat to the offside.
Siraj starts with a legbye off the first ball to Stokes. Root defends a full delivery, then faces a big lbw appeal while trying to clip a ball legside. India reviews, but it’s umpire's call and Root stays in. Stokes then hits a full ball through midwicket for two runs.
