IND vs ENG, 3rd Test Match Day 2: England batters dominated on the first day of the Lord's Test and posted 251/4. Will the Indian bowlers be able to stop English batters from posting a mountain-like total? Stay tuned to this space.
India vs England, 3rd Test Match Day 2: The high-voltage game between India and England began on Thursday at the iconic Lord's. England skipper Ben Stokes won the Toss and decided to bat first against India. In the first Session of Day 1, Nitish Kumar Reddy surprised everyone when he dismissed both English openers in his first over of the match. However, the innings of the home team saw some stability post losing the first two wickets and managed to put 251 runs on board, losing just two more wickets throughout the day.
England has recently been known for their 'Bazball' approach to batting, characterised by a high strike rate and rapid scoring. However, Indian bowlers managed to restrict them to just 251 runs even after completing three sessions of batting. Will Indian bowlers be able to bowl out England before Stumps on Day 2 or will the Ben Stokes-led team continue their dominance and post a big total on board? Stay tuned to this space to get all the live updates.
Wicket! The wicketkeeper catches an edge off Gill's bat, and he is out for 16 runs. Rishabh Pant comes in to bat at number five. Despite his injury, he attempts to play. He lets a wide ball go by, then hits a single through point. Rahul takes a run but is sent back by Pant, then manages to score three runs by guiding a length ball through gully.
Root makes an impressive catch, helping Stokes dismiss Nair, who is caught at first slip. With this catch, Root now holds the record for the most catches in Test cricket. Stokes delivers a ball that pitches at a certain length, and Nair attempts to hit it from the back foot. The ball curves away, hitting the outside edge, and Root leaps to his left to secure it.
Rahul has joined the game and plays a strong shot through covers, managing to pass three nearby fielders. There are loud shouts for leg before wicket, and England decides to use the DRS. The delivery approaches with an angle and strikes Rahul on the front foot. However, the ball tracker indicates that the ball is missing the leg stump, resulting in England losing their review.
Woakes bowls to Rahul, who defends a length ball to the leg side. Rahul then defends a ball bowled full on the stumps using a front-foot press. A straight ball hits the inside half of his bat, allowing him to take a single. Karun defends a ball to silly mid on with three onside catchers set for him. Woakes ends the session by beating Rahul’s outside edge on the last ball.
Carse bowls to Rahul, who defends the ball after it pitches on the stumps and then takes a single to square leg. Another delivery from Carse, which is back of a length, rises a little after pitching and goes past Karun’s defense.
Archer bowls to Karun and gets close to the outside edge with a delivery that straightens. Karun drives a fuller ball past mid off for four runs. He also edges a shorter ball down leg for another four. Karun picks up two more runs by pushing the ball through cover even though it’s not well-timed.
Woakes bowls to Rahul, who hits the first ball for a single to square leg. Karun defends the next ball with a full face and then flicks another ball to fine leg for one run. Rahul receives a full ball on his pads and collects a single to square leg.
Archer bowled to Jaiswal, who defended a back of a length ball to the offside. Jaiswal then missed a full and wide delivery he tried to drive. Archer took a wicket when Jaiswal edged a back of a length ball to the catchers, marking Archer's success in his first over back.
Woakes starts with the new ball for England, while Jaiswal and Rahul open the batting. Jaiswal hits a short ball from Woakes over point for four runs, beginning his innings with a boundary. Woakes then gets an edge, but it goes past the fielders for another four. He bowls a back-of-a-length delivery that Jaiswal clips past short midwicket for another four. Jaiswal also takes a single by punching a ball through point.
