These individuals, each with liquid investable assets of $1 million or more, are reshaping global financial and geographic trends, according to Henley & Partners' annual report
The world is witnessing an unprecedented surge in wealth migration, with an estimated 142,000 high-net-worth individuals (HNWIs) planning to relocate in 2025. These individuals, each with liquid investable assets of $1 million or more, are reshaping global financial and geographic trends, according to Henley & Partners' annual report.
This marks a significant increase from the 134,000 HNWIs who relocated in 2024, driven by strong inflows to countries like the UAE, USA, and Italy. Conversely, nations like the UK are experiencing accelerated outflows, reflecting a shift in preferences among the wealthy. In 2022, the UK saw a net departure of 1,600 HNWIs, which surged to 3,200 in 2023 and was expected to triple to 9,500 in 2024.
Since 2013, the number of millionaires on the move has grown by a staggering 178%, climbing from 51,000 to the projected 142,000 in 2025. This trend has been influenced by geopolitical and economic instability, digital advancements, and investment migration programs.
The Covid-19 pandemic briefly slowed this momentum, with numbers dropping in 2020. However, the recovery has been swift, surpassing pre-pandemic peaks.
The reasons for this shift are clear. Global turmoil, coupled with increased digital connectivity, has allowed wealthy individuals to collaborate and explore opportunities beyond borders. Additionally, the political realignments of 2024, marked by elections in over 70 countries, have driven the affluent to seek stable and strategic domiciles.
