Sudha Murty had this ONLY condition for marrying Infosys co-founder Narayana Murthy

Sudha Murty is recognised as one of the most prominent Indian women globally, celebrated for her inspiring journey, literary contributions, and philanthropic efforts. Married to billionaire Narayana Murthy, the co-founder of Infosys—whose market capitalisation exceeds Rs 7,97,000 crore — Sudha has become a role model for many. Recently, she attracted attention by explaining the reason behind the different spellings of her surname compared to her husband's.

During an interview with MoneyControl, Sudha disclosed that her choice to spell her surname as "Murty" instead of "Murthy" stems from her commitment to preserving Sanskrit traditions. She emphasized that "Sanskrit is the perfect language, where each pronunciation corresponds to a specific letter." According to her, using "THY" does not accurately reflect the Sanskrit spelling.

Sudha explained that her decision was a significant part of their marriage agreement. She stated, “In Sanskrit, Murthy refers to a statue, and it cannot be spelled as ‘THY’.” She insisted on using "TY" in her name as it aligns with the correct pronunciation in Sanskrit. This preference dates back to her university days when she first noticed the spelling difference with Narayana Murthy.

Moreover, both of their children, Akshata and Rohan, also carry the surname "Murty," further reinforcing this choice within their family. Narayana Murthy has expressed his support for Sudha's decision, describing himself as open-minded about such matters and highlighting the importance of mutual respect in their relationship.
