BUSINESS
Reliance Industries, initially a humble textile venture established by Ambani’s late father, Dhirubhai Ambani, in 1966, has transformed into a multi-industry conglomerate.
Mukesh Ambani is a business leader who dominates the global business landscape. He has redefined, time and again, the scope and influence of Reliance Industries Limited, which started as a small company and became a giant monolith under his dynamic leadership across sectors in energy, petrochemicals, retail, telecom, and textiles. Today, Forbes recognises Ambani as the wealthiest person in Asia and the world's 11th richest person with a net worth of $122 billion as of July 2024.
Reliance Industries, initially a humble textile venture established by Ambani’s late father, Dhirubhai Ambani, in 1966, has transformed into a multi-industry conglomerate. Following Dhirubhai’s passing in 2002, Mukesh and his brother Anil took on the challenge of steering the family business to new horizons.
The Indian billionaire businessman took the exemplary decision during the COVID-19 economic crunch of 2022. He gave up his salary as the Chairman and Managing Director of RIL as he focuses on keeping the firm stable for all the stakeholders. Mukesh Ambani, over a decade back, has also kept his annual salary limited to Rs 15 crore since the period of 2008-2009. This has meant a yearly loss of more than Rs 24 crore, a testament to his frugality in personal income despite the billions he controls.
Ambani takes care of the money not just for himself but also for his employees. A viral video from 2017 exposed that his personal driver takes home an impressive Rs 2 lakh a month, or more than Rs 24 lakh annually. Ambani’s drivers, recruited through specialized contracting firms, undergo extensive training to manage high-performance and luxury vehicles under challenging conditions, always prioritizing safety. The vehicles themselves are equipped with advanced bulletproof technology, providing top-tier security for the family.
Through his leadership, vision, and personal ethos, Mukesh Ambani continues to set benchmarks for corporate success and social responsibility.
