Rival Bharti Airtel lost 11.4 lakh wireless subscribers in November. BSNL too suffered subscriber losses.
Mukesh Ambani's Reliance Jio has snapped the decline of the past four months in its user base. India's largest telecom operator, Jio, has now added 12.1 lakh wireless subscribers in just 30 days of November 2024, pushing its mobile user tally to 46.12 crore, according to TRAI's latest data. While rivals Sunil Mittal's Bharti Airtel, Vodafone Idea and state-owned BSNL suffered subscriber losses.
Bharti Airtel lost 11.4 lakh wireless subscribers in November as its mobile user base slid to 38.4 crore. Vodafone Idea too suffered subscriber losses, with its mobile user count shrinking by 15 lakh users to 20.8 crore customers.
Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL), which had enjoyed subscriber gains over the past few months, logged subscriber losses this time around. BSNL's wireless subscriber numbers fell by 3.4 lakh during the month to end at 9.20 crore users, data showed. The state-owned company benefitted after telecom operators raised tariffs in July 2024.

Currently, Jio and Airtel dominate the telecom market in India with a 40.15% and 33.45% share, respectively. The duo also offer 5G offerings across India. BSNL is also gaining ground with an 8.03% market share. The company has launched 4G services in all four metro cities—Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, and Chennai — and most state capitals. It plans to expand to all circles by June 2025.
