After securing a $265,000 salary at Google right after graduating from IIT Bombay with a degree in engineering physics in 2015, he set himself on a path that few would dare to follow.
At just 24, Daniel George was already envisioning a life unbound by the limitations of a conventional career. After securing a $265,000 salary at Google right after graduating from IIT Bombay with a degree in engineering physics in 2015, he set himself on a path that few would dare to follow.
While many would celebrate such financial success, George was focused on something greater: achieving financial independence and escaping the rat race early. Beginning his career at Google X in 2018, George enjoyed the perks that many envy—free meals, on-campus leisure, and a six-figure salary. However, beneath the surface of this lavish lifestyle, he was carefully planning his exit. After spending a year there, George developed a keen interest in personal finance. He was shocked to discover that nearly half of his income was consumed by taxes, prompting him to rethink his financial strategy. His answer? Aggressively reduce expenses and maximize savings. George's approach was unconventional. He lived on less than 10% of his income, avoiding costly purchases and embracing a minimalist lifestyle. Rather than driving cars or renting upscale apartments, he opted to bike or walk to work, shared a modest rental, and took full advantage of Google’s free amenities.
His discipline paid off—both literally and figuratively. By directing over $75,000 each year into tax-advantaged accounts, he quickly grew his wealth. By 2020, at just 27, George reached a significant milestone: his first million dollars in savings. But life had other plans in store. Meeting his future wife, an AI scientist at Google, changed his outlook. Even though he had enough to retire, George decided to remain in the U.S. to continue building his financial foundation. Later that year, George took on a new role at JP Morgan, where he led applied AI projects.
This transition doubled his income, yet his frugal habits stayed intact. Even as his net worth increased, he resisted the lure of luxury, choosing instead to invest his earnings. In 2023, at the age of 29, George made the daring choice to leave JP Morgan and pursue a new journey. Reflecting on his journey, George remarked, “Investing early wasn’t just about the money—it was about buying back my time and securing a life I truly want.”
