Watch: Jaya Bachchan loses her cool on being called 'Jaya Amitabh Bachchan' in Parliament, says 'mahilaayen apne pati..'

Veteran actor and Samajwadi Party MP Jaya Bachchan has once again grabbed headlines as she lost her cool in Parliament. The actress got annoyed at being addressed as 'Jaya Amitabh Bachchan' by Deputy Chairman Harivansh Narayan Singh. 

A video of Jaya Bachchan objecting to being addressed as 'Jaya Amitabh Bachchan' in the Parliament went viral on social media. As Deputy Chairman Harivansh called her to speak, Jaya responded sharply, “Sir, sirf Jaya Bachchan bolte to kaafi hojata” (It would’ve been enough to call me Jaya Bachchan). When he pointed out that her name was officially registered as such, she launched into a critique of the practice.

In her own nomination documents and hence Rajya Sabha official records, her name is Smt. Jaya Amitabh Bachchan .. but no .. she wants to be referred as Smt. She further burst into anger and said, “Ye jo hain kuch naya tarika hain ki mahilaayen apne pati ke naam se jaani jaye. Unka koi astitva nahi. Unki koi upalabdh hi nahi hain, apne mein aur astitva nahi hain. Ye jo naya shuru hua hain, I just...(Some new methods have emerged that women have to be known by their husbands’ name. As if women have no identity. They have no achievements, no identity of their own. This new thing, I just…)." 

The video is going viral on social media and divided the netizens. While some came in support of the actress, others questioned her throwing temper in Parliament. One of the comments read, "She’s not wrong in any sense." Another commented, "She is trying to act the character of Madam Indira Gandhi in Parliament as she may not get the role of Mother India 2 version of Nargis Movie." Another user wrote, "It's true that women should have their own identity but her arrogance and the way she reacted.. Btw does she think she would be in Parliament if she wasn't the wife of Amitabh Bachchan?" Another user recalled her statement about Aishwarya staying behind Abhishek Bachchan and said, "Speak about women ka active and shit! Lekin KWK me bol rahi hai, She likes that her daughter in law, stays behind and quiet! Dogli aurat!"

Jaya Bachchan recently made her comeback to films with the movie Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani which also starred Ranveer Singh, Dharmendra, Shabana Azmi, and Alia Bhatt in key roles. The film also marked Karan Johar's directorial comeback and became a huge hit.
