Vicky Kaushal, Ananya Panday to headline Gully Boy sequel? Here's what we know

Zoya Akhtar's groundbreaking film Gully Boy is nearing a significant milestone - its sixth anniversary. The movie received widespread critical acclaim for its authentic portrayal of India's hip-hop culture and impressive performances from its talented cast, including Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt, Siddhant Chaturvedi, and Vijay Varma. Notably, Gully Boy was India's official entry for the 92nd Academy Awards in the Best International Feature Film category, although it ultimately didn't receive a nomination.

Following its massive success and global recognition, a sequel is in the works, reportedly directed by Arjun Varain Singh, who helmed Kho Gaye Hum Kahan. While the official cast and crew have not been announced, rumours suggest that Vicky Kaushal and Ananya Panday may join the franchise in the upcoming Gully Boy sequel.

"Arjun Varain Singh, who directed Kho Gaye Hum Kahan for Excel and Tiger Baby, is slated to direct the Gully Boy sequel. He's confident that Ananya, who was his heroine in Kho Gaye, will be the perfect girl to lead the project. Vicky has been attached with the sequel for a long time now. Let's see if all these three artists can come together to recreate the magic of Gully Boy,” a source close to the development told Filmfare. 

Released in 2019, Gully Boy drew inspiration from the real-life stories of Indian street rappers Divine and Naezy. The original film explored the compelling tale of Murad, a talented young rapper from Mumbai's slums, who defies the odds to achieve stardom in the hip-hop world. 
The film also featured Vijay Varma, Amruta Subhash, Vijay Raaz, and Kalki Koechlin. Meanwhile, the makers are yet to share official updates on the sequel to the film. 

Coming to Vicky, the actor’s upcoming film slate includes several highly anticipated projects. He is set to star in Chhaava, Love and War, and Mahavatar. Ananya, on the other hand, is geared up for a romantic drama, Chand Mera Dil.
