There was always comparison between Aarav and Nitara for their skin colour, says Twinkle Khanna

Akshay Kumar’s wife, Twinkle Khanna recently shared a touching moment where her daughter Nitara proudly embraced her darker skin tone as a strength over her brother Aarav's fairer complexion. In a recent interaction, the actress revealed there was always this comparison between her daughter and son in skin colour. Recalling a ‘triumph’ moment, Twinkle said Nitaara declared her skin is greater than Aarav’s during a family beach outing. 

In a recent conversation with FICCI FLO, Twinkle shared valuable parenting insights and hacks. She also opened up about the noticeable difference in skin tone between her two children. She recounted a heartwarming anecdote about Nitara, which she considered a moment of triumph. "I learned so much from my first child, Aarav. As a parent, you tend to use your first child as a manual, experimenting and figuring things out as you go. With Nitara, my second child, I was more mindful of the comparisons that exist in our society, particularly when it comes to skin colour."

Twinkle stressed the importance of instilling self-confidence and self-acceptance in her daughter. She said that she made a conscious effort to celebrate Nitara's unique features."If she had a unibrow, I'd tell her she's as beautiful as Frida Kahlo. If she's brown, I'd remind her that her skin is golden,” she said. Further, she went on to describe a beach outing where Nitaara showcased her growing self-confidence and self-acceptance. 

“So eventually, one day, I think my proudest moment was when she was sitting with her brother and we were going to the beach and he was putting on sunblock. She said ‘I don’t really need so much sunblock because my skin is greater than yours’. And she said a white T-shirt gets dirty but a brown T-shirt doesn’t. You can’t see it so I am greater. So I thought that was a triumph,” she added.

Meanwhile, Twinkle was a popular film actor in the 1990s and is now known as an author. Her books are a delightful blend of humour, satire, and storytelling. Mrs. Funnybones, The Legend of Lakshmi Prasad, Pyjamas Are Forgiving and Welcome to Paradise are some of her notable books.
