Based on the 2002 Godhra train burning incident in Gujarat, The Sabarmati Report was released in the theatres on November 15 last year. Helmed by the famous TV actor Dheeraj Sarna in his directorial debut, the political drama features Vikrant Massey, Raashii Khanna, and Ridhi Dogra in the leading roles.

Around two months after its theatrical release, The Sabarmati Report is set to have its streaming premiere on ZEE5 on January 10. The OTT platform took to its social media handles, shared the announcement clip, and wrote, "The nation’s biggest cover-up unravels, revealing the truth—only on ZEE5. Watch The Sabarmati Report premiering on 10th Jan, only on ZEE5."

On December 2, 2024, PM Narendra Modi and several Members of Parliament watched the Vikrant Massey-starrer at the Balyogi Auditorium in the Parliament House, New Delhi. After the screening, PM Modi took to his X account, shared the photos, and wrote, "Joined fellow NDA MPs at a screening of The Sabarmati Report. I commend the makers of the film for their effort." 

PM Modi was the Chief Minister of Gujarat when the Godhra train burning incident had occurred. Multiple other ministers, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also watched the political thriller at the screening, which was also attended by Vikrant Massey, Ekta Kapoor, Raashii Khanna, and Ridhi Dogra.

A total of 59 Hindu pilgrims and karsevaks returning from Ayodhya were killed in a fire inside the Sabarmati Express near the Godhra railway station in Gujarat on the morning of February 27 2002. Co-produced by Ekta Kapoor's Balaji Motion Pictures and Amul V Mohan's  Vikir Films Production, The Sabarmati Report attempts to showcase the real truth behind the horrific incident.
