Sridevi was heartbroken after her breakup with Mithun Chakraborty, says Sujata Mehta: 'Unki shaadi bhi hui thi'

Veteran actress Sujata Mehta has made revelations about one of the most controversial and secretive love stories in the Hindi film industry between Sridevi and Mithun Chakraborty. The actress, who has been a part of films such as Pratighaat, Yateem, Gunaah, and Hulchul among others, claimed that the two superstars were madly in love with each other.

Talking to the YouTube channel Hindi Rush, Sujata said, "Sridevi was heartbroken after her breakup with Mithun. She used to be so distraught, but she was so professional. The moment the camera turned on, she belonged only to the camera. But after the shot, she would sit quietly in a corner. They were madly in love I suppose. They got married also. Unki shaadi bhi hui thi, aisa log bolte hain (It is even rumoured that the two got married secretly)."

In the same interview, Sujata also talked about working with Rajinikanth in the 1987 film Zameen. She stated, "He doesn’t have the conventional hero look, but he’s a superstar. When I asked him how he pulls it off, he told me, 'I sit in front of the mirror the whole night and talk to myself.' He would skip lunch and only have buttermilk. He has no ego and is incredibly down-to-earth." 

Directed by Ramesh Sippy, Zameen also starred Sridevi, Sanjay Dutt, Madhuri Dixit, and Vinod Khanna. The film was shelved due to lack of funds. Sujata also disclosed that Sanjay and Madhuri were in a relationship while working on the 1987 film as she claimed, "Everyone knew about their relationship, but no one knows why they parted ways."

While Zameen was being shot, reports also came in suggesting tensions between Sridevi and Madhuri on the sets. Talking about those reports, Mehta neither confirmed nor denied them and said, "They would sit at a distance on the set. Madhuri wouldn’t talk to anyone. She would sit in her corner with her walkman."
