There were reports that Ram Gopal Varma had been sentenced to 3 months in jail in a cheque bounce case. The director has broken the silence on the same and issue a clarification.
Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma has broken the silence on reports of being sentenced to three months in jail in connection with a cheque bounce case. For the unversed, there were reports that the Mumbai court has issued a non-bailable warrant against the Satya director in connection with a long-standing cheque bounce case.
As per the reports, the Andheri Magistrate court had scheduled the verdict for Tuesday (January 21) in the cheque bounce casem a day before the filmmaker announced his upcoming film Syndicate. However, RGV missed the session. As per the Telangana Today report claimed that after hearing the case for seven years, the Mumbai court has issued a non-bailable warrant in his name on January 23.
Now, the Sarkar director has reacted to the news reports and gave his explanation on the same matter. On his X, RGV said that he can't say much as the matter is still in court. He tweeted, "With regard to the news about me and Andheri court, I want to clarify that it is to do with a 7-year-old case of Rs 2 lakh 38 thousand amount, relating to my ex-employee .. My advocates are attending to it. and since the matter is in court i cannot say anything further."

It is not about settling the rupees 2.38 lakh. The contention was about refusing to be exploited in the attempts to fabricate ..Anyway that’s all I can say for now https://t.co/m4kAMHqlna

The Company director further wrote, "It is not about settling the rupees 2.38 lakh. The contention was about refusing to be exploited in the attempts to fabricate ..Anyway that’s all I can say for now."
As per the reports, Ram Gopal Varma has been found guilty under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act. This Act ‘penalises cheque dishonour due to insufficient funds or exceeding the account’s arranged amount’. Reportedly, in addition to the jail sentence, RGV will also have to pay Rs 3.75 lakh to compensate the complainant and if he fails to do so in three months, he will be rewarded with an additional three months imprisonment.
A complaint was filed by a company named Shree through Maheshchandra Mishra in 2018 against RGV’s firm, alleging that a cheque issued by Varma had bounced due to insufficient funds. In June 2022, Varma was granted bail after providing a personal bond as well as a Rs 5000 security deposit. The magistrate clarified there would be no ‘set-off under Section 428 of the Code of Criminal Procedure’ as RGV was ‘not in custody during trial’.
