Rajesh Kumar reveals he agreed to do Rautu Ka Raaz on the sets of Haddi with Nawazuddin Siddiqui | Exclusive

Headlined by Nawazuddin Siddiqui as Inspector Deepak Singh Negi, the crime comedy Rautu Ka Raaz premiered on ZEE5 on June 28. The film stars Rajesh Kumar, known for playing Rosesh Sarabhai in the cult sitcom Sarabhai vs Sarabhai, as SI Naresh Prabhakar Dimri. Their chemistry and camarederie is one of the major highlights of the film. In an exclusive interview with DNA, Rajesh talked about Rautu Ka Raaz and more.

When asked why did he sign up for the crime comedy, Rajesh recalled the amusing incident of agreeding to do the film while he was filming Haddi with Nawazuddin Siddiqui. "It is the shortest ever casting that happened in the film industry. I was shooting with Nawazuddin in a farmhouse in Chattarpur, Delhi. The director Anand Surapur walked in as he wanted to narrate a story to Nawazuddin about this film. He passed by me, came back to me, and asked, 'Are you the same guy who used to play Rosesh?'. I said, 'Yeah'. He further asked if I am free after this film and will play a cop next to Nawazuddin in his film. I questioned him, 'Are you casting me right now?', he said, 'Yeah, I can look at you and I can say that you can play that role.' That's how my casting for this film happened."

Rajesh further shared why he is not seen more regularly in films and series. "I am glad the kind of roles that are coming my way to which I would relate with and I would want my children also to watch at the same time. I think that's how the makers and casting people also look at me. It's not me who is being selective about it, but people want me to do certain kinds of characters", the actor added.

Before Rautu Ka Raaz, Rajesh Kumar was seen sharing the screen with Shahid Kapoor and Kriti Sanon in the romantic comedy Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya earlier this year. The film emerged as a success earning more than Rs 130 crore at the global box office.
