Parveen Babi: The actress who became star in no time

Parveen started her career as a model in 1971, and two years later she made her debut with Charitra. However, the film was a major flop, giving a shaky start to her career. Parveen gained received recognition for her role as Neela in the drama film Majboor (1974). Her bold looks, smoking cigarettes and being in a live-in relationship have made Parveen hot among the media as well. 

In the 1970s and 1980s, Parveen became one of the highest-paid actresses. She went on to deliver blockbusters as Deewaar (1975), Amar Akbar Anthony (1977), Suhaag (1979), Kaala Patthar (1979), The Burning Train (1980), Shaan (1980), Kranti (1981), Kaalia (1981) and Namak Halaal (1982). 

Parveen Babi's connection with the Mughals

Parveen Babi's former lover, actor Kabir Bedi revealed that Parveen had a connection with the Mughals. In a conversation with Bollywood Hungama, Kabir said that Parveen’s ancestors were Pashtuns and they used to work for the Mughal emperors.

According to Kabir Bedi, Parveen, who lived close to historical buildings, used to see ghosts in those buildings. He said, “Her problems could have begun in childhood because she used to see spirits in the monuments around her house, that were related to her family’s history: the Babi-Pashtun clan had served emperor Humayun at one point."

Parveen Babi's mysterious death

In her final years, Parveen battled paranoid schizophrenia for a long time. She used to claim that many people from the film industry wanted to kill her, including her co-star Amitabh Bachchan. On January 20, 2005, Parveen was found dead under mysterious circumstances. Her death shook Bollywood as she was found dead in her flat, and her body kept rotting in the house for three days.
