BOLLYWOOD
Today, we're talking about one such actress who gave hit films, worked with big stars, but decided to quit showbiz to focus on her personal life.
Many actresses in Bollywood became famous right after their first movie. But, even with a great start, some choose to leave the industry when they are at the peak of their career.
Today, we're talking about one such actress who gave hit films, and worked with big stars, but decided to quit showbiz to focus on her personal life. That actress is Amrita Rao who began her Bollywood journey with Ab Ke Baras in 2002.
While the film didn't succeed at the box office, her acting received positive feedback. In 2003, she starred with Shahid Kapoor in the romantic musical Ishq Vishk, which became a massive success and significantly advanced her career. She also featured in the Telugu movie Athidi, alongside Mahesh Babu. Despite its box office success, Amrita did not pursue any further Telugu projects.
In a candid interview, she expressed, "In Telugu cinema, women are often treated as mere glamour props." Amrita Rao later starred in hit films like Vivah with Shahid Kapoor and Main Hoon Na with Shah Rukh Khan.
Her performances caught the attention of numerous filmmakers, leading to more opportunities, including roles opposite big stars like Sunny Deol in Singh Saheb The Great and Ajay Devgn in The Legend of Bhagat Singh.
Esha Deol and Amrita Rao appeared in the 2006 film Pyare Mohan, featuring Fardeen Khan and Vivek Oberoi. During the shoot, reports suggested that the two actresses got involved in a heated argument. The disagreement quickly escalated, and it was claimed that Esha slapped Amrita in the heat of the moment.
In an interview with TOI about the incident, Esha Deol revealed that she had no regrets and believed that Amrita completely deserved what happened.
Talking about her personal life, Amrita Rao married her boyfriend, RJ Anmol, in a private ceremony in 2014. In November 2020, they welcomed their son, Veer. The couple also runs a YouTube channel called Couple of Things. In February 2023, they released a book by the same name.
