Keerthy Suresh reveals Samantha Ruth Prabhu's crucial role in her Bollywood debut in Baby John

Keerthy Suresh has made an interesting revelation about her Bollywood debut in the Hindi remake of Theri. In a candid conversation with Galatta India, the actress credited her close friend Samantha Ruth Prabhu for helping her land the coveted role in the Atlee-directed film, Baby John starring alongside Varun Dhawan. 

According to Keerthy, Samantha recommended her name to the filmmakers, with Varun Dhawan confirming that Samantha had indeed suggested Keerthy for the part. Expressing her gratitude, Keerthy said, "She probably had me in mind when this was happening; that's what Varun also told me. I can't be grateful enough for that. It's so sweet of her to say, 'Keerthy will be able to pull off this character.' Her performance in Theri is one of my favourites in Tamil. Honestly, I was very scared." For the unversed, Samantha Ruth Prabhu played Keerthy's role in the Tamil version. 

Keerthy Suresh further thanked Samantha Ruth Prabhu, revealing that the latter had also shown her support after the trailer of Baby John was released. "I remember her posting a story on Instagram after watching the trailer of Baby John, saying, 'I wouldn't have shared this one with anyone else, but you.' It was so sweet and meant a lot to me," she added. The two actresses have a special bond, having shared screen space in Nag Ashwin's critically acclaimed 2018 Telugu period drama Mahanati, for which Keerthy won the prestigious National Award for Best Actress.

Upon release, Baby John's box office performance has been underwhelming despite the hype. The film has failed to cross the Rs 50 crore mark worldwide in its first five days. The film, also featuring Wamiqa Gabbi, Jackie Shroff and Rajpal Yadav, got off to a promising start, raking in double-digit numbers on its opening day. However, the film's momentum was short-lived, as it witnessed a significant decline in earnings from the second day onwards, largely due to the overwhelming buzz surrounding Allu Arjun's highly-anticipated Pushpa 2.
