His journey before entering the film industry is as captivating, fascinating, and inspiring as a movie itself. Boman Irani was born into a middle-class Parsi family and lost his father when he was just six months old. During a Josh Talks session, he opened up about his battle with dyslexia.

On Kaun Banega Crorepati 12, Boman also shared that he used to lisp and was often mocked for it in school, which affected his confidence. According to Humans of Bombay, Boman began singing to improve his speech. One day, his mother attended his school performance and recorded the applause at the end. Listening to that recording multiple times helped him regain his confidence.

Boman's mother managed the family and ran their Farsan and namkeen shop at Grant Road. Over the years, Boman saw his mother handle difficult times on her own. After finishing college, he wanted to support the family. He approached the manager of a Taj hotel and shared his ambition to work at the rooftop restaurant. The manager told him, "To reach the top, you have to start from the bottom," and gave him a position in room service. After a year and a half, Boman moved up to work as a waiter at the restaurant.

When Boman's mother had an accident, he left his job to take over the Farsan shop. He ran the shop for the next 14 years, during which he met his wife, got married, and started a family. However, despite all of this, Boman felt that something was missing in his life. His wife, recognizing this, encouraged him to step out and explore new opportunities.

Boman has always had a passion for photography, a love that he inherited from his father, who was also a photographer. He decided to try his hand at photography, and after facing some early struggles, he eventually found success in the field. During this time, a friend encouraged him to audition for a commercial, and Boman landed the role. This led to him appearing in over 180 ads. He was also offered a role in a low-budget short film, which he eagerly accepted. A clip from this film caught the attention of producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra while it was being edited.

After Vidhu Vinod Chopra noticed Boman, he offered him the role of Prof. J. Asthana in Munna Bhai MBBS, with a paycheck of Rs 2 lakh. Although Boman wasn’t initially enthusiastic about the film, he chose to trust the vision of debutant director Rajkumar Hirani. Before Boman, Amrish Puri had been considered for the role, but he was ultimately rejected.

Boman Irani's impressive filmography includes several blockbuster hits such as No Entry, Khosla Ka Ghosla, Don, Lage Raho Munna Bhai, 3 Idiots, the Housefull franchise, Jolly LLB, and Uunchai. His next project is Rajkumar Hirani's Dunki.
