Baby John: Advance bookings for Varun Dhawan film begins, can it break Pushpa 2's record?

The advance bookings for the much-awaited film Baby John has started on Sunday, three days ahead of its grand release on December 25 coinciding with Christmas. The action-packed drama features Varun Dhawan, Keerthy Suresh, Wamiqa Gabbi, and Jackie Shroff in the leading roles. Salman Khan will be seen in an explosive cameo in Baby John.

The Varun Dhawan-starrer will face tough competition from Pushpa 2: The Rule, which is going strong at the Hindi box office. Starring Allu Arjun, Rashmika Mandanna, and Fahadh Faasil, the pan-India sequel has already become the highest-grossing Hindi film ever with its domestic net collections of Rs 665 crore in just the Hindi language. Pushpa 2 hit screens on December 5 and is now inching towards the Rs 700-crore mark in Hindi. Baby John's first week will definitely be impacted by the Pushpa 2 juggernaut.

Meanwhile, Varun has denied that Baby John is the remake of Thalapathy Vijay-starrer Theri and called it an adaptation of the 2016 blockbuster. In a recent press conference in Delhi, the actor said, "When Atlee came with this film, there was a reason behind it, and he said that we had to change a lot of the geography of the film. We have to use it as an adaptation and not really a proper remake, and I think that's what has been done." Atlee had directed Theri and has produced Baby John with Kalees as its director.

Baby John is produced by Murad Khetani, Priya Atlee, and Jyoti Deshpande under their banners JioStudios, A for Apple Studios, and Cine1 Studios. The film will see Varun Dhawan play a cop named Satya Verma and John, his alter ego.
