BOLLYWOOD
This actress felt playing the role of a mother on-screen would naturally lead to her eventually portraying a mother-in-law.
Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel starred in the 2001 hit movie Gadar, which was a huge success at the box office. Since then, Sunny's fans were eagerly waiting for a sequel. In 2023, their wish came true when Gadar 2 was released.
However, before the movie came out, there were several reports about disagreements between the director, Anil Sharma, and Ameesha Patel. Recently, Anil Sharma shared that Ameesha had been unsure about playing the role of a mother-in-law in the movie.
Anil Sharma revealed that Ameesha felt playing the role of a mother on-screen would naturally lead to her eventually portraying a mother-in-law. In an interview with Siddharth Kannan, he explained that Ameesha's concerns were based on her expectations about the film's storyline.
He said, “Gadar 2 ki kahani mein unko utni jagah nahi mil payi jo Gadar 1 mein mili. Woh umar aur samay ko samajh nahi paayi ki umar ek cheez hoti hai. Usko sabko samajhna hoga. Jab aap Jeete ki maa hain, toh uski bahu ki saas bhi banna padega na. (She didn’t get the screen time she enjoyed in Gadar 1, and she struggled to accept the natural progression and age of her character’s life. After playing Jeete’s mother, she had to play a mother-in-law)."
He further said, “Yeh maante hain aap bohot mehnat kar rahi hain apne aap pe, lekin kalakaar hain. Nargis bhi toh bani thi Mother India mein mother jab woh young thi. Toh banna hi padega.” (I understand she is beautiful and works hard on herself, but she is an actor. Even Nargis Dutt played a mother on-screen to young actors when she was young).
Gadar 2 has earned over Rs 625.54 crore (US$75 million) in India, with an additional Rs 65.54 crore (US$7.9 million) from overseas markets.
Feud with her father:
In 2004, Ameesha accused her father of mismanaging her finances. This led to a legal battle, with Ameesha suing him for mishandling assets and funds worth Rs 12 crore. In a recent interview with Hindustan Times, Ameesha Patel addressed the issue and stated that she has no regrets about her decision years ago. She questioned why she should feel ashamed when the money rightfully belonged to her. Ameesha emphasized that no one, not even her parents, had the right to take her money. Additionally, she revealed that her parents had also deceived her grandmother, which is why her grandmother supported Ameesha.
When she quit job
Ameesha's career began with her debut in Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai alongside Hrithik Roshan, which became a huge success. She then starred in the blockbuster Gadar. However, following these successes, she appeared in several films that did not perform well at the box office, such as Aap Mujhe Achche Lagne Lage, Vaada, Elaan, Mere Jeevan Saathi, and Ankahee. Despite these setbacks, Ameesha had a promising start in Bollywood after turning down an offer from Morgan Stanley to pursue her passion in acting.
