RRTS vs Delhi Metro, which is better? Check speed, travel time and other details

The New Ashok Nagar-Sahibabad Rapid Rail Transit System (RRTS) corridor, part of the ambitious Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Namo Bharat project, was inaugurated today by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This 13-km stretch of the high-speed rail network, developed at a cost of Rs 4,600 crore, aims to transform regional travel. Additionally, PM Modi inaugurated the 2.8-km stretch of Delhi Metro Phase-IV between Janakpuri and Krishna Park.

The Namo Bharat RRTS sets itself apart from the Delhi Metro with its focus on high-speed, long-distance travel. Designed for regional connectivity, the RRTS offers high-frequency services with trains every 15 minutes initially and minimal stops. The state-of-the-art trains, running at speeds up to 160 km/h, promise to cut travel times significantly. Passengers can cover 100 km in just 45-50 minutes, a feat unmatched by the Metro.

According to the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC), the RRTS is a dedicated commuter service offering fast, reliable, and comfortable regional travel. Unlike conventional railways or the Metro, it is built for longer distances with seamless integration into existing transport networks, including Indian Railways, Inter-State Bus Terminals (ISBTs), airports, and the Delhi Metro.

The Namo Bharat trains are also three times faster than the Delhi Metro, with an average speed of 100 km/h. This makes them ideal for passengers traveling between regional hubs in the National Capital Region (NCR).

The project stems from a 2005 Task Force recommendation to develop a multi-modal transit system for NCR. It was included in the Integrated Transport Plan for NCR 2032, focusing on connecting regional centers.

With the RRTS, the NCR takes a significant step toward world-class, efficient public transport.
