Prayagraj flight prices skyrocket amid Mahakumbh Mela 2025, but THIS hack can let you save 50% on your ticket

With flight fares to Prayagraj soaring, travelers heading to the Mahakumbh are opting for indirect routes to reach the holy site. 

There has been a significant increase in searches for alternative travel routes, such as Mumbai-Varanasi and Bengaluru-Varanasi, in recent days. Additionally, travelers are considering nearby airports like Lal Bahadur Shastri Airport in Varanasi as they explore options for Mahakumbh 2025, according to a report from travel search engine Skyscanner.

As of Tuesday, January 28, one-way flights to Prayagraj from major cities like Mumbai, Delhi, and Bengaluru for January 30 and January 31 are priced between Rs 24,277 and over Rs 40,000. On Monday, prices even exceeded Rs 53,500. In contrast, flights to Varanasi are about 50 percent cheaper than direct flights to Prayagraj on the same dates.

Prayagraj is located over 100 kilometers from Varanasi. Once travelers arrive in Varanasi, they can take a bus, train, or cab to reach Prayagraj.

A report by Mint revealed that on Tuesday, January 28, flights from Delhi to Varanasi for January 30 are priced at approximately Rs 11,308, while flights from Mumbai are around Rs 12,941. A one-way ticket from Bengaluru to Varanasi for the same day costs Rs 15,690.

In comparison, a direct flight from Delhi to Prayagraj on January 30 has a minimum fare of Rs 24,277, which is about 53 percent higher than the cost of a Delhi-Varanasi flight on the same day. Similar pricing trends are observed for flights from Mumbai and Bengaluru.

To travel from Varanasi to Prayagraj, options include taking a bus, train, or cab. An express train ticket costs between Rs 555 and Rs 1,450, while an AC bus fare ranges from Rs 899 to Rs 1,609. Average cab charges for the journey are between Rs 2,000 and Rs 3,000.

The Mahakumbh Mela commenced in Prayagraj on January 13 and is set to conclude on February 26, 2025. This significant religious event is drawing millions of pilgrims.
