Mark Zuckerberg's watch gains attention as Meta shifts to community-based fact-checking and revises moderation policies to address bias and simplify processes.
Meta Platforms CEO Mark Zuckerberg recently drew attention for wearing an ultra-rare USD 900000 (Rs 7.47 crore) watch during the announcement of a major policy change. The Swiss-made Greubel Forsey Hand Made 1 Tourbillon watch, known for its exclusivity and craftsmanship, reportedly takes 6,000 hours to assemble, with only three pieces produced annually. This luxury accessory paired with his usual simple black shirt reflects what many see as a shift in Zuckerberg’s style, often called a “stylistic evolution” or even a “midlife crisis.”
Known for his gray shirts and hoodies, Zuckerberg has recently been experimenting with personalized clothing. At a Meta event last fall, he wore a shirt featuring the Latin phrase “aut Zuck, aut nihil,” translating roughly to “either a Caesar or nothing.” He has also been spotted wearing other luxury watches, including a USD 1.2 million Patek Philippe and a USD 95,000 De Bethune DB25 Starry Varius.
While Zuckerberg’s choice of watches has sparked interest, his announcement about Meta’s content moderation changes drew even more attention. Meta plans to phase out partnerships with independent fact-checking organizations and adopt a community-based fact-checking model, similar to Elon Musk’s Community Notes on X (formerly Twitter). This change comes amidst criticism of Meta’s current moderation policies, which Zuckerberg admitted have resulted in “too many mistakes and too much censorship.”
The new approach will also simplify moderation for sensitive issues like immigration and gender, topics that have been significant in shaping political narratives. Political posts are set to receive more visibility, and Meta’s trust and safety team will relocate from California to Texas to address concerns about political bias.
These changes are part of Meta’s effort to align with political shifts, particularly following the GOP’s recent electoral success. Critics and observers are closely watching how these policy updates and Zuckerberg’s personal choices will shape Meta’s future.
