MacKenzie Scott is a well-known name in the world of Philanthropy. She is an author, philanthropist and the ex-wife of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos. The 54-year-old has been in the news for her massive donations. She is one of the most prolific philanthropists in recent history. Scott has donated an astounding USD 16 billion (around Rs 1,37,000 crore) to various charitable causes over the past five years.  

While many praised her efforts for philanthropy, several have expressed concerns. Tesla CEO Elon Musk recently expressed his unease about Scott's donations, particularly regarding the issues they target and their potential long-term impact.

Musk shared a social media post by entrepreneur John LeFevre that scrutinized Scott’s donations. Musk called it 'concerning'. The post argued that her contributions primarily benefit the "NGO/non-profit complex" and questioned whether they address the world's most pressing problems. The post expressed concern over Scott’s focus on causes such as racial equity, immigrant rights, and LGBTQ justice. LeFevre suggested that these efforts may inadvertently promote divisive ideologies rather than fostering unity or tackling urgent global issues.

Despite a massive donation to several organisations, Scott has a real-time net worth of USD 30.9 billion, as per Forbes. She was married to Jeff Bezos for 25 years. As part of their 2019 divorce, she received a 4 per cent stake in Amazon. In May 2019, shortly after she announced the terms of the divorce on X, she signed the Giving Pledge, promising to give away at least half of her wealth throughout her lifetime.
