Prior to the 2nd T20I against India, Harry Brook said that the smog in Kolkata posed challenges for batters, making it difficult to see the ball coming from the bowler's hand.
England's middle-order batter Harry Brook faced significant criticism for his “smog” comment after losing his wicket to Varun Chakravarthy once again in the 2nd T20I of the five-match series at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. This marks the second consecutive time Chakravarthy has dismissed Brook in the ongoing series.
Prior to the 2nd T20I against India, Harry Brook said that the smog in Kolkata posed challenges for batters, making it difficult to see the ball coming from the bowler's hand.
"With the smog the other night, it was a lot harder to pick. Hopefully, the air is a bit clearer here and we can see the ball a bit easier. Facing spin in T20 cricket is probably the hardest thing in the game, especially because I always get out trying to absolutely smack it," Brook said in Kolkata after his dismissal.
However, as Brook was bowled by Chakravarthy in Chennai, commentators Sunil Gavaskar and Ravi Shastri brought up his earlier remarks on air, appearing to take a jab at him.
Chakravarthy completely outsmarted Brook, with the ball slipping through the gap between his bat and pad. Although the delivery was well outside off, it turned sharply back in, leaving Brook completely unprepared.
"You don't need the smog. Once again, it is Varun Chakravarthy. This has sneaked through, and it's crashed into the stumps," said Shastri.
On the other hand, Gavaskar said, “You said it, you said it. The light is clearer here. In Kolkata, there was some smog. No smog here. Had no idea where the ball was going. Harry Brook gone for 13. Chakravarthy is maybe asking, 'Is there any smog there'?”
Meanwhile, India T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav won the toss and opted to bowl against England in the second T20I at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Saturday. The decision proved to be right as Indian spinners once again spun the web around England batters.
