The couple exchanged their vows at the picturesque Holmenkollen Chapel, nestled in the snowy hills of Oslo, surrounded by their loved ones on a Saturday.
The era of GM Magnus Carlsen's dominance in the world of chess has now expanded to include a queen. The renowned Norwegian chess prodigy has recently tied the knot with Ella Victoria Malone in a grand ceremony held on a sunny winter day in Oslo.
The couple exchanged their vows at the picturesque Holmenkollen Chapel, nestled in the snowy hills of Oslo, surrounded by their loved ones on a Saturday. Following the ceremony, they celebrated with a lavish reception at Oslo's iconic 5-star Grand Hotel.

Among the distinguished guests were Carlsen's best men, FM Johannes Kvisla and Chess.com's Askild Bryn, who holds a Guinness World Record. Notable attendees also included sports commentator and chess reporter Sverre Krogh Sundbo, Carlsen's long-time coach GM Peter Heine Nielsen and his wife GM Viktoria Cmilyte-Nielsen, as well as GM Jon Ludvig Hammer, formerly Norway's second-ranked player. Sundbo described the ceremony as a beautiful affair in an interview with NRK.
According to reports from the Norwegian newspaper Dagbladet, a film crew from Netflix was present at the event. The streaming giant is said to be filming a chess-related TV show rumored to be released in 2025.
Ella Victoria Carlsen, formerly known as Ella Victoria Malone, is 26 years old and comes from a diverse background, with a Norwegian mother and an American father. She has lived in various countries, including Oslo, the U.S., and Singapore, where she holds permanent residency.
The couple made their first public appearance together at the Freestyle Chess G.O.A.T Challenge in Germany in February 2024. Since then, Ella Victoria has gradually become more involved in Carlsen's public life, accompanying him to various events, including the World Rapid & Blitz Championship in New York.
Ella Victoria is expected to play a more prominent role in her husband's career moving forward. Reports from VG suggest that she played a pivotal role in securing Magnus a deal with fashion brand G-Star Raw.
For Magnus Carlsen, this week has been nothing short of a whirlwind. It all started in New York and culminated in his eighth World Blitz Championship title, a victory that was somewhat controversially shared with Grandmaster Ian Nepomniachtchi.
While their wedding was undoubtedly a fairy tale, the Carlsens are not yet ready to embark on their honeymoon. Magnus is gearing up to make his debut for St. Pauli in the German Bundesliga on January 10th. He will be facing Dusseldorf, led by none other than Grandmaster Gukesh Dommaraju.
