The Planetary Parade happens when three or more planets align in the night sky, appearing close together from Earth's perspective.
Stargazers, get ready for an incredible cosmic event in early 2025! The night sky is set to showcase a stunning alignment of seven planets, creating a celestial phenomenon called the "Planetary Parade." Here's everything you need to know about this rare event.
What is the Planetary Parade?
The Planetary Parade happens when three or more planets align in the night sky, appearing close together from Earth's perspective. This event occurs because of the planets' orbits around the Sun and their unique speeds. Although the planets won't form a perfect straight line, they will appear in an arc, making it a breathtaking sight.
Which planets will align?
In January and February 2025, six planets – Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune – will align in the night sky. By February 28, Mercury will also join the alignment, completing the lineup of seven planets.
Best time to watch
The best time to see this celestial event is 45 to 90 minutes after sunset. Bright planets like Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn can be seen with the naked eye, but Uranus and Neptune require binoculars or a telescope.
How to watch the Planetary Parade
Why is this event special?
This rare alignment lets you see multiple planets in the same sky at once. It’s a unique opportunity to appreciate the beauty and vastness of our Solar System. Watching the planets with your own eyes adds a personal connection to the universe.
The Planetary Parade will be visible for two months, from January to February 2025. The highlight will be on February 28, when all seven planets align. So, mark your calendar and prepare to witness one of the most spectacular celestial events of the year!
