Schools in Delhi instructed to identify Bangladeshi students without legal documents

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi has asked schools in the city to identify children of illegal Bangladeshi migrants and to not issue birth certificates to such individuals. This follows a virtual meeting on December 12, chaired by the principal secretary (Home) of the Delhi government, with MCD representatives that included the additional and deputy commissioners.

It was also at the meeting that preventive measures from all departments were to be incorporated. The education department is required to screen admissions and carry out verification drives about the existence of illegal children migrant children from Bangladesh in all the municipal schools. Also, public health is set to ensure that no Bangladeshi migrant illegitimate births are issued with certificates of birth. They are even obligated to verify all existing certificates that may have differences in some cases.

B.P. Bhardwaj, Deputy Commissioner of the MCD said that there was a need for vigilance and concerted efforts from all departments. The MCD has issued instructions that an Action Taken Report must be submitted every week to the deputy commissioner (HQ) by Friday at 3:30 PM. All school heads must submit their compliance reports by December 31. These measures would address the problem of illegal encroachments and implement the directives.
