Delhi-NCR weather update: Rain, thunderstorm bring relief to capital, Noida, Ghaziabad; IMD issues Red Alert

Many parts of Delhi and its surrounding National Capital Region (NCR) experienced heavy rainfall on Tuesday afternoon, bringing much-needed relief from the humid weather. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert for the capital and nearby regions, warning of thunderstorms, hailstorms, and strong winds, with the speed reaching between 50–70 kmph at isolated locations.

According to PTI, several cities, including Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, Faridabad, and parts of Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan, were expected to witness heavy rain, lightning, and winds. 

''A red alert was issued for Delhi and surrounding areas on Tuesday, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting thunderstorms accompanied by hail, moderate to heavy rainfall, and gusty winds reaching speeds of 50 to 70 kmph at isolated locations over the next two hours,'' it read.

As bad weather hit Delhi, the advisory warned that flight services might be affected. ''Our on-ground teams are working diligently with all stakeholders to ensure your journey remains hassle-free. For the latest flight information, passengers are advised to contact their respective airlines," it read.

According to ANI, it rained heavily in Noida Sector 11, and commuters were seen travelling through the shower. The sudden rain and cloudy skies brought relief to Delhi and the nearby regions.

As per the IMD weekly forecast, Delhi and the nearby region will remain partly cloudy with light to moderate rain and strong winds throughout the week. Meanwhile, IMD has issued a red alert for Kerala's Malappuram and Kozhikode districts on June 17 for heavy rainfall over 20 cm in 24 hours. “Children and elderly people were already shifted to relatives’ houses.
