Atul Subhash suicide case: Bengaluru court grants bail to Nikita Singhania, her mother, brother

In the latest development on AI engineer Atul Subhash's suicide case, the Bengaluru's City Civil Court granted bail to his estranged wife Nikita Singhania, her mother Nisha Singhania and brother Anurag Singhania. 

Earlier in December, Bengaluru techie Atul Subhash died by suicide and left behind a 24-page note and 90-minute long clip, alleging extortion and harassment against his estranged wife and her family. 

Nikita Singhania, her mother Nisha and brother Anurag were later arrested in connection with abetment to suicide under the section 108 of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS). 

Pertinent to note that the duo had filed for divorce in a Jaunpur family court, based in Uttar Pradesh. 

Earlier, Akash Jindal, counsel for Atul Subhash’s family, argued that the accused wife, Nikita, should not use their child to obtain a bail. "The criminal nature is accumulating to this procedure, and she can't take advantage of the child. We have sought total custody of the child," news agency IANS quoted Jindal as saying. 

Atul Subhash's family seeks his son's custody 

Deceased Atul Subhash's family earlier sought his four-year-old son's custody and expressed concerns about his whereabouts. As per Nikita Singhania, the four-year-old is staying at her relative's place in Faridabad. 

"If the court grants bail to Atul's wife, she can attack the child and endanger his life. If she could drive my son to suicide, she could do the same to the child", deceased's father, Pawan Kumar Modi, expressed concerns about his grandchild, as quoted by IANS. 

The family also revealed that they had filed a petition in the Supreme Court to ascertain the whereabouts of the child. Following this, the top court directed Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, and Haryana police to investigate the matter. 

The hearing in the top court is scheduled for January 7.
