Oscars 2025: This Indian film bags nomination in Academy Awards, not Pushpa 2, Kalki 2898 AD, Stree 2; fans react

The nominations for The Oscars are out, and it seems like India will shine again on an international platform. The categories and nomination list are out, and Guneet Monga and Priyanka Chopra-backed short film, Ahuja has secured a nod for the prestigious award.  

The announcement was made on the X handle of The Academy under the category of Nominees For Live Action Short Film. Out of the 180 films that qualified for the Best Live Action Short Film category, only five films have made it to the race to grab the trophy. Anuja is nominated alongside Alien, I’m Not a Robot, The Last Ranger and A Man Who Would Not Remain Silent. With Ahuja producer Guneet Monga scored her fourth nomination after The Elephant Whisperers (2023), Period End of Sentence (2019), and Kavi (2010).

Soon after the nomination was announced, it caught reactions from Indian moviegoers and netizens. An internet user, "Anuja is an Indian Short Film!" Another internet user wrote, "Why are these people(Rachel Sennott) on GMA announcing the Oscar nominees talking about doing Adderall like it's a joke? Teenagers and adults abuse this drug. Not sure why that's supposed to be funny." One of the netizens wrote, "Indian representation, lesgoo!! Guneet Monga Kapoor with her 4th Oscar Nomination With Anuja, hope she gets het hat-trick of wins this time." 

Conan O'Brien will be hosting the 2025 Oscars, marking his first time doing so. The 97th Oscars will be held at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on March 2.
