The Tamil Film Producers Council (TFPC) has announced that no film shoots can take place from November 1 and no new projects in Tamil cinema can begin from August 16 onwards.
The Tamil Film Producers Council (TFPC) made a big announcement on Monday, July 29, in which it has stopped film shoots and post-production work in Tamil cinema from November 1 onwards. It has also halted work on any new projects from August 16. The producers' body has also passed several important resolutions in a joint meeting held in Chennai.
This meeting was attended by representatives of TFPC, Tamil Film Producers Association Executives, Tamil Nadu Theatre Owners Association Executives, Tamil Nadu Theatre Multiple Association Executives and Tamil Nadu Film Distributors Association Executives. The issues discussed were rising costs of production, OTT release window of Tamil films headlined by major actors, and actors' committment towards projects, for which Dhanush was also called out.
These major resolutions were passed during this meeting. Firstly, as several films are awaiting their theatrical release, no new films can start their shoot from August 16 onwards. The films, which are currently being produced, should be completed by October 30. No film-related activities can take place from November 1 as TFPC aims to restucture and regulate the rising costs of productions and actors' fees, which are putting the Tamil cinema at a financial risk. It was also decided that movies, featuring leading actors from Tamil cinema, will only be released on OTT eight weeks after their theatrical release.
Another important issue of actors and crew members leaving their ongoing films after taking the advance payments was also highlighted. Hence, it was decided that any actor or technician who has taken an advance fees from a producer must complete the project before moving on to a new one. In this context, Dhanush was called out as he has taken advances from multiple producers and hasn't even come for the shoots. "In the situation where Dhanush has received advance payments from several producers, the producers are requested to consult the Tamil Film Producers Association before starting work on new films starring actor Dhanush", the producers' body announced.
Finally, a Joint Action Committee (JAC) consisting of producers, distributors, and theatre owners will be set up to look into the issues and challenges faced by the Tamil film industry.
