Despite being part of the blockbuster hit "Koi Mil Gaya", Bedi felt that the film's success did not translate to his own career.
Rakesh Roshan's 2003 sci-fi film "Koi Mil Gaya" was a massive hit, earning critical acclaim and numerous awards. The movie catapulted lead stars Hrithik Roshan and Preity Zinta to new heights, but ironically, it failed to boost the career of Rajat Bedi, who played the villain. A significant portion of his scenes were deleted from the final cut, dealing a severe blow to his career and mental well-being.
In a throwback interview, Rajat had spoken out about his struggles with mental health and his subsequent decision to relocate to Canada after a prolonged absence from the glamour world. In a candid interview with Mukesh Khanna, the actor once revealed that he moved to Canada due to frustration with his film career. Despite being part of the blockbuster hit "Koi Mil Gaya", Bedi felt that the film's success did not translate to his own career, citing that many of his scenes, including those with Preity Zinta, were cut from the final edit.
"My biggest disappointment was that when the film was released, they completely cut out from the publicity and promotions of the film. I was very disappointed because as an actor you have certain expectations. I felt terrible," he shared. Additionally, he cited other reasons that led him to step away from Bollywood.
Further, Rajat also shared that he faced financial struggles, including bounced cheques, while working on a film with Sunny Deol. This led him to question the financial stability of his acting career, especially when compared to his friends from high society who were running successful companies.
Meanwhile, Rakesh Roshan’s Koi Mil Gaya explores themes of friendship, love, and self-discovery. It features a mix of science fiction, drama, and music. The movie's success led to the creation of a franchise, with two sequels: Krrish (2006) and Krrish 3 (2013), both starring Hrithik in the lead role.
