MS Dhoni’s bat used in 2011 ODI World Cup final was sold for THIS whopping amount

India scripted history in 2011 by securing their second ODI World Cup title at the Wankhede Stadium. Led by captain MS Dhoni’s unbeaten 91, India defeated Sri Lanka by 6 wickets in the final, claiming the prestigious trophy on home soil.

While chasing a target of 275, India faced early setbacks with the dismissals of key players Virender Sehwag and Sachin Tendulkar. However, a vital 97-run innings from Gautam Gambhir and an unbeaten 91 from MS Dhoni, capped off with a match-winning six, guided India to win the ODI World Cup title after 28 years.

You might be surprised to learn that the bat Dhoni used during the iconic World Cup final was sold for a whopping amount.

As per reports, three months after winning the World Cup, Mumbai-based brokerage firm RK Global bought MS Dhoni's Reebok-labelled bat for £100,000 (Rs 72 lakh approx. back then) at an auction in London.

The main motive of the event was to raise funds for MS Dhoni's wife's charitable organisation, The Sakshi Foundation, which supports underprivileged children in the country. 

Dhoni’s bat, which struck the winning six off former Sri Lankan bowler Nuwan Kulasekara, will forever be cherished by Indian and cricket fans around the world.

Dhoni announced his retirement from international cricket on August 15, 2020. 

During his stint, he guided India to victory in the ICC 2007 T20 World Cup, the 2011 ODI World Cup, and the 2013 Champions Trophy. He remains the only Indian captain to have won all three ICC white-ball trophies.
