CRICKET
The Men in Blue will have numerous opportunities in the shape of bilateral matches to finalise their selection for the main events.
The year 2024 proved to be a challenging one for the Indian men's cricket team, with a mix of highs and lows. Looking ahead to 2025, we are hopeful for a successful year as India prepares to compete in the Champions Trophy, face off against England in five Tests and participate in the Asia Cup.
Unfortunately, Rohit Sharma and his team faced a disappointing end to 2024 with a 184-run loss to Australia in the Boxing Day Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Following their victory in the T20 World Cup, India struggled to achieve the desired results.
Notable setbacks included a series loss to Sri Lanka in ODIs and a home Test series defeat against New Zealand. In 2024, India recorded eight wins, six losses and a draw in 15 Test matches.
The team only played one ODI series in 2024, which resulted in a defeat against Sri Lanka in the three-match series.
As India kicks off 2025 with the final Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground, the pressure is on for Rohit Sharma and his squad to secure a victory to stay in the running for the World Test Championship (WTC) final. A loss or draw would eliminate them from contention.
Following the Sydney Test, the focus will shift to the Champions Trophy, where India will compete in Dubai. Their campaign begins on February 20 against Bangladesh.
India is set to kick off their cricket season with a series of matches against England, starting on January 22nd. The schedule includes 5 T20Is and three ODIs. Later in the year, India will head to England for a five-match Test series, marking the beginning of their fourth World Test Championship cycle.
Looking ahead to 2025, India's calendar is packed with 18 T20Is, 10 Tests, and 12 ODIs in bilateral series outside of their commitments to the ICC and ACC. This rigorous schedule promises an exciting year of cricket for fans around the world.
