IND vs ENG: Hardik Pandya surpasses Jasprit Bumrah in elite bowling list during India vs England 1st T20I

In the ranks for the most wickets taken by an Indian in Twenty20 international cricket, Hardik Pandya has now surpassed both Jasprit Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar Kumar. In the opening game of the five-match series at Eden Gardens, he took two wickets to reach this milestone.

Hardik was able to dismiss fast bowler Jofra Archer and young talent Jacob Bethell on a slightly slow pitch in Kolkata. He broke Bumrah's record of 89 wickets with his first one. He then passed Bhuvneshwar's record of 90 wickets from 87 games with his second wicket late in the innings.

As it stands, Hardik Pandya is now the third-highest wicket-taker for India in T20Is, trailing only Arshdeep Singh and Yuzvendra Chahal. Notably, Arshdeep Singh became the highest T20I wicket-taker for India during this match, thanks to his impressive two-wicket haul in the powerplay. His ability to swing the ball was particularly effective against England, leading to quick dismissals.

Arshdeep took out both England openers—Phil Salt and Ben Duckett—in his first two overs, putting the visitors in a tough spot in Kolkata. He now boasts 97 wickets from 61 T20Is, surpassing Yuzvendra Chahal, who is no longer part of the team.

While Arshdeep was economical with figures of 4-0-17-2, Hardik Pandya struggled, conceding 42 runs in his four overs, which gave him the highest economy rate among Indian bowlers. Following Hardik's economy of 10.50, Varun Chakravarthy had the next worst rate at 5.75, having given away only 23 runs in his four overs while taking 3 wickets.
