PBKS vs RR, IPL 2025: Sanju Samson's Rajasthan Royals play Shreyas Iyer's Punjab Kings in match 18.
PBKS vs RR, Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025: Shreyas Iyer's Punjab Kings are gearing up to take on Sanju Samson's Rajasthan Royals in match 18 of the Indian Premier League 2025, happening at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, Chandigarh tonight. Both teams are coming into this match riding the wave of recent victories.
This season, the Punjab Kings have been a force to be reckoned with, performing like a well-oiled machine. Their batting and bowling departments are operating at full capacity as a result of meticulous planning and execution. With the explosive combo of Ricky Ponting and Shreyas Iyer at the leadership, the Punjab Kings appear to be strong playoff hopefuls.
However, the Rajasthan Royals have had a bit of a mixed bag this season. Their batting order is loaded with power hitters, but their bowling assault has not been as consistent as in previous years. Still, they demonstrated great potential in their last match against the Chennai Super Kings, effectively defending their total.
Archer bowled the last over of the day with the result already decided. PBKS tried to score some runs in the final over but only managed a single before losing a wicket. Ferguson hit a boundary off the penultimate ball but there was a lengthy check for a no-ball which was not given. RR won the match by 50 runs.
RR 205/4 (20)
PBKS 155/9 (20)
Hasaranga takes a wicket with a well-placed delivery outside off, causing the batter to sweep towards midwicket where Jurel makes a fantastic diving catch. Shashank gets his first run with a shot to deep midwicket. There is an appeal for leg before wicket against Shedge, which is reviewed and the ball tracking shows it was umpire's call on hitting the stumps.
Maxwell faces a slower ball and is caught out, but manages to score a couple of runs to deep point. He then hits a four by guiding the ball past short third. The bowler throws two wide balls down the leg side, and Maxwell successfully reviews a third wide ball for a nick behind, which is proven incorrect by Ultraedge. Maxwell is distracted by the spider cam and picks up a single to short third. The next batsman, Wadhera, scores a single to the leg side. Finally, Maxwell hits another boundary by reverse-scooping a short ball over short third.
Hetmyer scored a single on a defensive shot and almost got run out when trying to take a second run. Parag tried to hit a pull shot too early and missed. He also missed a cut shot, leading to a bye being conceded by the wicketkeeper. A wide was given on the next ball. Hetmyer hit a six by swivel pulling a short ball towards Chahal at deep fine leg, who failed to catch it and the ball went for a boundary.
Marco Jansen bowls a Yorker to Parag for a single, surprises Rana with a short ball which he lets go. Rana is then tempted to hit a wider delivery over the offside but doesn't get enough distance and is caught out by the offside sweeper.
Parag hits one off his pads for a single but then gets out when Ferguson bowls a slower ball that hits his offstump. Nitish Rana comes in next and hits two fours, one through cover and one over backward point. He then hits a fuller ball to midwicket for a couple of runs.
Since PowerPlay began, there haven't been many boundaries, but Samson and Jaiswal are focusing on not letting too many dot balls accumulate. Jaiswal attempts a ramp shot but doesn't make good contact, only managing to get a single run.
Jaiswal elegantly creates space and expertly hits the ball over the extra cover fielder, resulting in a quick two runs. With finesse, Jaiswal manages to chip the ball just over mid-on, leaving Shreyas with no chance to make a play. Jaiswal confidently sends the ball soaring over mid-on and straight to the boundary.

Shreyas Iyer: We'll bowl first. Looking at the last game, we were playing on a new wicket and we want to see how the pitch plays. Same mindset here as well. We need to stabilise the rhytmn from game one and that's happened. Important to steady the ship from here, boys are in high spirits. Need to maintain composure and calmness throughout the season. We've played the practice games here so we know how the wicket will play. We played our last two games on red soil so hopefully we can adapt early.
Sanju Samson: Pretty happy to bat first and put on a decent total. I could feel what the coaches would be going through, a bit restless and helpless. But excited to be back now. It is a new team and team management, we have got to know each other now and it takes a bit of time. We are geling better now. We have a small niggle for Tushar Despande, so he's out for today and Yudhvir comes in for him.
