Who was Amit Banerji? Co-founder of Table Space dies of heart attack at 44

Amit Banerji, co-founder and CEO of managed workspace operator ‘Table Space’, died after a heart attack. He died on Monday morning at 44, according to a statement from the company.  

Announcing his death with “deep sadness”, the company’s statement reads, “his impact on the company, its people and the industry will be lasting, and he will be profoundly missed by his family, friends and partners." 

Who was Amit Banerji? 

Amit Banerji started Table Space in September 2017 with co-creator Karan Chopra, according to a report by VCCircle. Before this venture, Banerji worked at Accenture, a services providing MNC, for 13 years and was appointed its managing director of corporate real estate in India before leaving the company.  

At Accenture, he oversaw almost everything pertaining to real estate-its planning, deal structuring, strategy, acquisition, finance and operations in India.  

Table Space has six other founders besides Amit Banerji and Karan Chopra. Kunal Mehra is its president, Srinivas Prasad is the chief strategy officer, Krishnaswamy Nagarajan is COO and Services CEO, Anurag Tyagi is Constructions CEO, Nitish Bhasin is chief sales officer, and Anamika Gupta is executive director sales. 

Amit Banerji was an all-rounder with deep knowledge in the fields of asset management, real estate economics, business planning, and transactions. He was an excellent negotiator.  

Educational qualifications and net worth 

Banerji earned a B.Tech degree in Computer Science from the Punjab Technical University and did his schooling from Gyan Bharati. 

As of the last investment round on August 17, 2024, Banerji held approximately 21.55 percent of the business, according to data gathered by the research firm Tracxn. The founder's unrealized stake in the business is projected to be worth ₹866.8 crore, and he has realized an additional ₹90 crore from his whole shares, given the company's post-money valuation of ₹3,162.1 crore. 

His death is not a first of an entrepreneur in recent times. Other startup founders and investors who died at an early age in the recently inlcude- Ambareesh Murty, co-founder of furniture e-commerce Pepperfry, died at the age of 51 in 2023, Rohan Mirchandani, co-founder of Epigamia lost his life at the age of 42 in 2024 and Rohan Malhotra, co-founder of Good Capital also died in 2024 at the age of 44.
