Despite the loss, Reliance Jio retained its top spot with a market share of 39.9 per cent. Rival BSNL continues to gain subscribers.
Mukesh Ambani is the richest man in India who runs Reliance Industries as its chairman. His Reliance Jio is India's largest telecom operator. However, the telecom company continue to see a loss in their subscriber base. Now, in just 31 months of October this year, the company lost 37.6 lakh mobile subscribers, according to the latest report by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI). Not just that, Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd., saw about 1.65 crore subscribers exiting the platform over the past four months.
Despite the loss, the service provider retained its top spot with a market share of 39.9% whereas Sunil Mittal's Bharti Airtel followed with a 33.5% share. Meanwhile, Bharti Airtel saw its subscriber base increase by a net of 19.28 lakh users in October compared to a loss of 14.35 lakh users in September. Vodafone Idea also witnessed a loss of 19.77 lakh users, up from a loss of 15.5 lakh users in September. Its market share stood at 18.30%.

BSNL and MTNL, the two PSU access service providers, had a market share of only 8.22%. In contrast, state-run BSNL gained its subscriber base with five lakh users in October, down from 8.5 lakh in September. As per the telecom regulator data, Jio, Airtel and Vi's active user bases were at 448.44 million, 383.4 million and 178.8 million respectively in October. The decline in private players' subscriber base follows the tariff hike announced earlier in July this year. Most private telecom operators proposed tariff hikes in late June, with the revised rates coming into effect from July.
