Sonam Kapoor made her debut in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's 2007 film Saawariya, which was a box-office failure. Her first major success came in 2010 with I Hate Luv Storys.

Aishwarya was replaced by Sonam Kapoor as the face of an international beauty brand. Some reports suggested that Aishwarya had stepped back from endorsing beauty products, paving the way for Sonam. When asked about it, Sonam called Aishwarya an "aunty from another generation," which caused a stir, especially since Aishwarya was only 36 years old at the time.

In an interview with Hindustan Times, Sonam addressed the incident and explained that since Aishwarya had worked with her father, Anil Kapoor, she felt they were from different generations. She clarified that this was why she referred to Aishwarya as "aunty." She said, "Aish has worked with my dad so I have to call her aunty na!"

Later, after facing significant backlash for her comment about Aishwarya, Sonam sat down for another interview with a major daily. During the chat, she firmly denied ever age-shaming Aishwarya, stating that she had been misquoted.

She explained, "It's all gossip. I never said any of that. I don't want to remark on it anymore. A lot has been printed and said and it's all turn into very untidy and filthy, and I don't wish to get into it anymore. I really respect Abhishek as a person and had one of my best experiences working in Delhi 6. Aishwarya Rai is Aishwarya Rai. I never said that. I would address her in a deferential way, but I would never call her aunty."

Meanwhile, Sonam Kapoor recently met her friend and co-star Jacqueline Fernandez at an event, and they both had a heartwarming reunion moment. The actresses posed together for paps, and their videos and photos went viral in no time. In one of the videos, Jacqueline and Sonam could be heard interacting, and the Kick actress asking why the Delhi-6 lead hasn't been in touch lately.

Sonam gave her a candid reply saying, "I’m married, I have a child. My whole life has changed." This video became popular on social media, and several fans of Masakali Girl shared it on their handles. Sonam and Jacqueline have been best friends. Even though they have never shared the screen, they have been spotted together at various events and even supported each other.

For the unversed, Sonam got married to UK businessman Anand Ahuja on May 8, 2018. Two years later, she welcomed her first child, a baby boy with Anand. Sonam and Anand are proud parents of Vayu Kapoor Ahuja, and the Bhaag Milkha Bhaag actress often shares adorable moments with Vayu on her social media.
