Vikrant Massey and Rani Mukerji are top contenders to win Best Actor and Best Actress at the 71st National Film Awards, likely to be announced today.
The 71st National Film Awards are likely to be announced today on August 1. These awards will be presented to the Indian films, which received their certification from CBFC (Central Board of Film Certification) in 2023. As per reports, Vikrant Massey and Rani Mukerji are strong contenders to win the Best Actor and Best Actress honours for their respective films 12th Fail and Mrs. Chatterjee vs Norway.
As per a News18 report, senior journalist Subhash Jha quoted a source saying, "Vikrant Massey’s performance in 12th Fail is getting him the National Award. It is final. For the National award for Best Actress, Rani Mukerji is a very strong contender for her role in the film, Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway, and there are also two actresses from the South also in the reckoning." The source also mentioned that Karan Johar's Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani might win the National Award for Best Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment.
In an interview with the same portal earlier this year, Vikrant Massey had shared that it's his dream to win a National Award. Speaking about 12th Fail's prospects of winning the National Award for Best Film, the actor told News18, "I hope it does. And I’m sorry, without cost of sounding pompous, and with utmost humility. I hope it does. I hope the film wins an award. I hope Vidhu Vinod Chopra wins an award. I hope I win an award. I’ve always aspired for one. I’ve prayed for one when I was that young kid wanting to become an actor, I always wanted a National Award because that’s the greatest achievement an actor in India can have, to be presented with an award by the President of the country. And I hope it happens. So, fingers crossed."
At the 70th National Film Awards announced last year in August, Rishab Shetty won the Best Actor award for Kantara. The Best Actress award was shared between Nithya Menen and Manasi Parekh for Thiruchitrambalam and Kutch Express, respectively. The Malayalam language drama Aattam won the Best Feature Film Award.
